IIGH, in collaboration with the KSOM Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, over the past year developed and adopted these Principles of Local and Global Engagement to guide all aspects of our research, education, and community programs. We collaborate with a broad range of civil society, academic, government, and UN partners, in the United States and around the world. We recognize our responsibility as an academic institution based in the global north to operate ethically and equitably within these partnerships. These eight principles form the backbone of how we seek to engage with partners worldwide and provide actionable guidance for our work. Aligned with international human rights norms, these principles emphasize respect for human rights as central to ethical and equitable engagement. Community engagement is such an essential foundation for shifting the needle on health equity and making sure that we create actual human-centred approaches in all areas of health, social services, education . . . This is an excellent report with visuals and wisdom. All of this is #cultivatingsafespaces Love these engagement insights: 1. Be clear about goals 2. Engage in different ways 3. Prioritize in person and human-centred 4. Collaboration means honouring strengths around you and self-awareness 5. Be transparent about who you are and why you do this work 6. Communicate clearly - use visual tools and clear language 7. Limit ‘need’ for follow up 8. Encourage participation  9. Compassion for personal circumstances - no judgment 10. Take time and make effort Such good work!

We are proud to have several regional academic partnerships, including six of Alabama’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Leaders from these institutions support the work of the MHERC to develop health disparities research training programs for students and faculty who demonstrate a commitment to working with underrepresented or disadvantaged populations. The partnerships, funded by the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), help increase the pipeline of talented and culturally-sensitive investigators in the field of health disparities research.

We're delighted to announce that the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health have, in partnership, been invited to become a member of the NIHR School for Social Care Research (SSCR). The SSCR improves the evidence base for adult social care in England. Our team at Sheffield includes Professor Katherine Runswick-Cole (School of Education), Professor Peter A Bath (School of Information, Journalism and Communication), Professor Kate Hamblin (Social Research Institutes) and Professor Nathan Hughes (School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations) along with staff in the Faculty of Health headed up by Dr Liz Croot (Sheffield Centre for Health and Related Research). https://lnkd.in/gsz2Q5jV
