The Russian state-run news agency Russia has officially announced the commencement of mass production for the Lebedev Modular Pistol (MPL) and its specialized counterpart, the MPL1. Designed by Dmitry Lebedev, a lead engineer at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, and now produced under the auspices of the Kalashnikov Group, the MPL series represents a cutting-edge evolution in handgun technology. These pistols are slated to replace older models like the Makarov and Yarigin pistols, showcasing a shift toward enhanced capabilities and versatility crucial for modern warfare scenarios. The MPL and MPL1 are recent innovations in Russia's handgun arsenal. Since their introduction in 2021, these pistols have found utility across various branches of the Russian security apparatus, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Aerospace Forces, the FSB, and the National Guard. In 2017, the Kalashnikov started the development of a handgun at the request of the Russian National Guard. This was the early version of MPL. Modular – because the weapon designers treated the design as a universal platform. A compact pistol version known as the PLK was presented for policemen and EMERCOM personnel still in 2017. This is a more light-weight version with a shorter barrel and weight slightly less than those of the traditional Makarov used by policemen. At the same time, the magazine has more rounds than that of the Makarov – 14 rounds, and for the MPL version – 16 rounds. Lebedev and his team were continuously introducing improvements and various modifications of the pistol. The Come Back Alive Foundation, together with Ukrnafta, delivered 79 pickup trucks to the newly created anti-aircraft machine gun battalions. The Come Back Alive Foundation announced this on social media. More than UAH 70 million were spent on supplying mobile firing groups. The Foundation emphasized that the new vehicles are about speed and mobility for the safety of Ukraine’s defenders and each of us. “Cross-country pickup trucks are the most necessary thing on the battlefield and one of the most frequent requests from the Ukrainian Defense Forces, as they are the mainstay of the logistics of this war. And only new vehicles can provide an additional assurance that the vehicle will not fail at a crucial moment and will not require constant repairs,” the Come Back Alive Foundation noted. This time, 79 pickup trucks will reinforce anti-aircraft machine gun battalions from Sumy, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, and Chernihiv. The Foundation emphasized that this is only part of the comprehensive supply of newly created military units. The total cost of the aid is UAH 70 million 807 thousand 841.32. In January, the Come Back Alive Foundation used funds from Ukrnafta to  provide equipment and vehicles to mobile AA fire teams of an anti-aircraft machine gun battalion of the Ukrainian military. The military received pickup trucks, spotlights, thermal imaging optics, generators, and other equipment. Mobile AA fire teams Mobile AA fire groups are an important part of Ukraine’s air defense. Perhaps it is time for the United States to focus its foreign aid and security assistance programs in our own backyard. Addressing the regional instability issues in South & Central America is in our National Security interest and could significantly aid in stemming the flow of migrants trying to cross the Southern Border. In order to be effective though, it must be a comprehensive and well synchronized regional strategy, and not the typical haphazard, short sighted, and uncoordinated USG waste of money. There was a time when we as a nation could execute great accomplishments like the Marshall Plan.

The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has commissioned Heckler & Koch, the renowned firearms specialist from the Black Forest, to manufacture and deliver a specially designed suppressed weapon for their elite forces. Hartpunkt reported that the submachine gun based on the HK437 platform and chambered in .300 Blackout (7.62 x 35 mm), will be introduced into the Bundeswehr under the designation G39. Reliable sources indicate that the contract was awarded in mid-February 2024. Initiated in the fall of 2022, the procurement project aimed to replace the suppressed variant of the MP5, widely used by special forces and reconnaissance units, with a more modern and high-performance firearm. The solicitation called for a weapon, along with accessories and ammunition (soft-core, subsonic, and supersonic), capable of engaging soft and protected targets at distances up to 200 meters. The specifications demanded a semi-automatic rifle, “over the beach” capable, with a maximum total weight of 3,300 grams when equipped with a sound or signature suppressor, handguard, mechanical sights, adjustable shoulder stock, and an empty, inserted magazine. The initial phase will see 176 basic sets of the suppressed special forces weapon issued to qualified units.
