What a lovely topic to discuss! It's truly touching to see the gesture made to those five employees on their last day.
This got me reminiscing about my own career journey, starting from the days when I encountered colleagues who dedicated their entire careers to one organization, spanning over four decades.
As time passed and my career evolved, I witnessed a shift in the job market. People began to explore different opportunities, with the average tenure at a job decreasing to around five years. That was the era of 2000s, and if you belong to my generation, you can surely relate to the changes I observed.
Now, after 26 years in the workforce, I find myself reflecting on my own path. I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to all my recent past organizations, and in return, I've received invaluable support and opportunities that have shaped my career.
Delving deeper into this changing trend, it's evident that several factors have influenced it. From an increase in job dissatisfaction leading to more choices for employees, to a prioritization of personal progress over loyalty to a single employer, and even the rising expectations for better pay and living standards. It's a complex mix of factors that has led to this shift.
Yet, amidst these changes, there are benefits for organizations as well. They now have the opportunity to adapt new talents and also right-size their workforce as needed. It's a dynamic landscape that continues to evolve, presenting both challenges and opportunities for both employees and employers alike.
On this International labor day, kudos to all those who truly gives their best to their employers!
