Great advice here, Emily Tucker! I also think that it's easy to slip into the habit of trying and solve all the problems and answer all the questions WE THINK the prospects have because we think that it makes us look smart instead of simply humbling ourselves enough to just have a simple conversation and ask. This is how we better serve our prospects!
Begin with a more intimate conversation with the consumer as to their experience, their concerns, their personal needs and meet them there so they feel heard. Once they feel safe and understood, their relationship and understanding of what Senior living can offer them. Thank you, Emily.

I help creators integrate storytelling frameworks with exponential technologies, like AI and blockchain, to accelerate their output and repeatedly produce narratives that captivate, inspire, and drive success.
I'm doing a series of 29 videos that give families (and senior living advisors) a way to have compassionate, persuasive discussions with their older loved ones who need help as they age. This video introduces the format I'll be following to talk about the 28 common excuses (based in real concerns and fears) that seniors may use to resist accepting assistance or making a move to senior living.
It is time we shine some light on the secret worries and fears about what the future might bring to the elders in our lives. Giving voice to our fears and discussing them openly with those whom we love and trust is the first step to a new and beautiful adventure.
CHANGE can be scary, especially for elders.
Help them learn to TRUST others.
Reassure them they'll maintain CONTROL.
"When worries and fears remain unspoken, they continue to grow in the shadows and maintain their grip."
In each video you'll hear one possible argument or excuse your aging family member might use to resist senior care or senior living. Things like home care, independent living, assisted living, or memory care.
ACTION STEPS:
- Highlight or mark the excuses you've heard them use before. Discuss these first AND revisit them multiple times. One talk is rarely enough.
- Jot down notes for each resistance statement (excuse) before you sit down to talk.
- The bulleted statements are gently persuasive counter perspectives for you to use to help your loved one move past fears.
- Your job IS NOT to "be right" or win an argument.
- Your job IS to show them you hear them, you understand them, you want the best for them, and you love them.
- Take notes while you talk. You can always return to these conversations later. Repetition and exposure to things we are afraid of, a little at a time, reduces our fear over time. It's called Exposure Therapy. And you just experienced it in compressed form (once from the first bullet and now this one).
"You have an opportunity to put yourself in their shoes. Not only will you gain insight about their perspective, you are also pre-planning for your own future as an elder."

We have a young and growing population, we're an hour from the Rockies, and the cost of living isn't crazy expensive (relative term).
As long as you don't mind shovelling snow 6-months of the year, what's not to love?
But don't tell anyone, please.
