This year's Nithiah Nandan Award goes to Shirley Wan, Senior Analyst of Senoko's Energy Digital Information Technology Division (seen here receiving the certificate from Frederik Baerts, President & CEO of Senoko Energy. The annual Nithiah Nandan Award is named in honour of the fiery unionist and a former employee of Senoko Power Station. It recognises employees at Senoko Energy who demonstrated a passion for learning and the desire to constantly upgrade themselves. The late Nithiah Nandan advocated passionately for power plant workers - who were most daily rated in the late 1970's and 1980's - to upgrade themselves through continuous training so that they could make a better living. Shirley was given the Award for completing a 12-month Specialist Diploma in Cybersecurity. She was driven to overcome the challenges of juggling work, study and personal obligations due to her passion for the discipline, which she felt would help her become more effective in executing her role as part of the cybersecurity team. Congratulations to Shirley! #senokoenergy #energymarket #essentialservices #lifelonglearning #continuouslearning

📢DSO Entity’s #KnowledgeSharingforGrids series Across the EU, the energy sector is going through a massive transformation that requires an increase of skilled workers to bring the #energytransition to life. In all Member States, #DSOs are reporting skill and staff shortages across all areas of their work streams, mainly caused by the increase of skilled staff needed to connect, manage and operate new decentralised capacity into the power network. New jobs will also be needed in areas such as renewables, cybersecurity, IT and digitalisation to ensure the achievement of the EU’s energy targets. DSO Entity engaged last year in its #DSOEntityUpSkills campaign to share on-the-ground experiences and best practices from our #DSO members. The challenges are manifold and cross-sectors: 📌 Increase of direct and indirect jobs needed to deliver the energy transition on the ground 📌 High transformation of jobs needed with specific skills and training needed 📌 Scarcity of highly-qualified profile leading to competition on the labour market Skills and staff are a prerequisite for the successful delivery of the #energytransition, where #DSOs re-skill, up-skill, and train the staff needed to facilitate the renewable and digital transformations of the electricity system. To cope with this, our Grid Connection Paper highlights the proactive initiatives of our members Enedis (France), Iberdrola (Spain) and ČEZ (Czech Republic) to both: 🏫 Engage in partnerships with the education system and public authorities to skill, upskill and reskill existing and future staff 🤝 Support the recruitment in the energy sector Read more in our Paper: ⤵ https://lnkd.in/eFczhEQe For more information on skill and job shortages, read DSO Entity’s Years of Skills factsheet: https://lnkd.in/eCfBSNrW #Fitfor55 #DSOEntityUpSkills #energytransition #DSOs #KnowledgeSharing #BestPractice #renewables #efficentenergy #gridconnection

Last week, The European Data Centre Association - EUDCA and CISPE welcomed representatives from the European Commission, national ministries, and trade associations to discuss the newly adopted EU reporting framework for #DataCentres. This framework, better known as the revised Energy Efficiency Directive (#EED) and its Delegated Act, took effect in May. The first reporting deadline is set for 15 September 2024. 🗣 During the roundtable, several challenges relating to the reporting were highlighted, including technically unmeasurable data points like data traffic which do not contribute to improving the sustainability of data centre operations. Colocation operators are concerned about accessing information on IT equipment and data they do not own, and potential cybersecurity risks from low-confidentiality disclosures. The roundtable emphasised the need for a harmonised and collaborative approach to ensure a level playing field in reporting for data centres and digital infrastructure across #Europe. #Sustainability #EU #EnergyEfficiency 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dn3d7WYd
