I’ve always been a sucker for free lunch. Combine that with meeting cool people and learning about a new and different #methane fixed sensor (aka #ContinuousMonitor), and I’m in for sure. That was the case this week as I flew out to the west coast to visit Kishore Manghnani and Mark Stubbs, two of the three founders of Shoreline AI, at their facility in the Bay Area. Shoreline developed their sensor originally for predictive maintenance of O&G equipment, but it has also demonstrated early success in detecting large methane emissions events from tanks in the field. What makes their sensor different from other “point” sensors is that it does *not* measure methane concentration. Say what??!! Instead, it senses other environmental signatures that can accompany large emission events. It attaches directly to the equipment (Class 1 Div 2) instead of on the fence line, and regularly samples parameters like temperature, acoustics, and vibrations, searching for anomalous behavior and trends, which can indicate a large emission event. Kishore and Mark are sharp, nice guys, and I really connect with their start-up mentality. Mark even made their shake table, circuit board QA fixture, and tons of other stuff from scratch in house... love it!
