Well done to EMA and MTI in facilitating IEA set up its first office outside its Paris Headquarters. It bodes well for Singapore to act a Sustainability Steward Hub to countries and ecosystem players in the Asian countries looking for guidance and resources in their sustainable energy transition pathway. #Sustainability #ESG #Climatechange #Transitionfinance

Commitment, collaboration & capex: a systemic approach to carbon investment Across the globe and within the GCC region, efforts toward decarbonization are gaining momentum as the built environment plays a crucial role in global actions to limit carbon emissions. Many key pillars and takeaways impacting the built environment were discussed at COP 28 last year. 130 nations signed the Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge, an agreement to triple renewables and double efficiency in this decade. This is a significant step forward, building on already- considerable momentum for renewables. The launch of Buildings Breakthrough, an initiative for international collaboration between national governments to accelerate climate action on buildings. The aim would be to make ‘near-zero and resilient buildings’ the new normal by 2030. 👉🏻 Join Farah Naz, Director of ESG and Innovation, Middle East and Africa from AECOM Middle East, for this session to get expert insights into the topic.

9moVery good story in the Straits Times. Thanks David Fogarty. This is good news for Singapore and the region. I have a lot of time and respect for IEA. I remember meeting Fatih Birol when he launched IEA's World Energy Outlook in Singapore 4 December 2012, at an event organised by EMA. I profiled him in my 2013 book "Race for Sustainability" (published by World Scientific). I reported him saying that that it was an "epic failure" of international energy policy that only a third of economically-viable energy efficiency measures were actually achieved globally. That was eleven years ago, and I suspect it is probably worse now, not better. He also noted that "the focus on energy efficiency is one of the very few valuable options to reduce emissions in the short term and perhaps for some time after". There is obviously a lot more to be done by saving energy, saving energy costs and cutting emissions at the same time. Maybe when IEA is set up here (if not before) it can remind governments in the region, businesses and industry to address the "low hanging fruit": cut energy waste and emissions!
