Consulting is a great help to get a company ISO 27001 certified. I've worked with great consultants and I would recommend them anytime. For me, the best consultants empower the company but remind them that internal teams must do the job and own their system. Because once the company is certified... the consultant might not be there anymore. Here are ISMS maintenance tasks internal stakeholders often have to do on their own once they achieve the ISO 27001 certification: 1. Updating policies and procedures. 2. Updating risk assessments. 3. Preparing internal audits. 4. Conducting management review. 5. Distributing policies to staff, make sure it is read. Easy, no? 6. Raising staff awareness on security topics. 7. Developing and refining incident response plans. 8. Measuring ISMS performance. 9. Making sure the ISMS documentation doesn't become messy, i.e. full of duplicates, lack of version management, etc. 10. Identifying new requirements relevant to the ISMS (DORA, NIS 2). 11. Implementing risk treatment plans. 12. Updating the SOA to reflect changes in the risks and the controls you've selected. 13. Managing security risks of third-party vendors. 14. Managing an up-to-date inventory of information assets. 15. Documenting and managing changes to the ISMS to ensure they do not introduce new risks. 16. Having adequate business continuity and disaster recovery plans, regularly tested. 17. Addressing corrective actions from internal/external audits. I believe internal stakeholders will be owners of such actions. 18. Updating planning objectives to make sure the ISMS objectives are still relevant. 19. Simplifying documentation. I believe getting started with an ISMS means sometimes over-complicating it. When you own the system, your job is to make the existing documentation more relevant. There's no specific order and this post isn't aimed to be comprehensive. I just wanted to highlight how having someone INSIDE the company who understands the ISMS is valuable. Because ISO maintenance is a continuous work. The best part? It can also be a consultant committed long-term with the company if the company doesn't have the internal resources. The shape it takes doesn't matter. What matters is that the company trusts someone to own and maintain the ISMS. Because ISO is a continuous job, not a one-off. #iso27001 #ownyourISMS #lifeafteriso

🚀 Another successful ISO audit for Assured Insights! This time, it's for our #ISO22301 Business Continuity Management certification. There was one minor observation raised by the auditor, but we’ll take that onboard and act on it in the coming days to ensure continuous improvement. When I founded Assured, I knew we might never be the biggest player in the data space, but I was certain we could be the best. Alongside building a top-notch product and hiring a fantastic team, it was clear that implementing the right frameworks, policies, and procedures would be key to supporting our business and, most importantly, our clients and partners. Achieving ISO 22301 has meant formalising our BCM plan, testing it, and opening ourselves up to an audit. It’s been a valuable process, and I’m proud of the work we’ve put in.
