Stealth changes on Empty rates rule changes from 01 Apr 2024.... Look out for our forthcoming short video on the little known changes announced by Jeremy Hunt's team on budget day. Our number 1 prediction by our Jan 24 panel event was pretty spot-on. We are already seeing the signs that some agents are burying their heads in the sand and underplaying the net impact on landlords and from this change in England. The net saving is dropping by a quarter which cements the case that ethical empty rates mitigation, by helping the charity sector, is the last best way and carries the favour of political and public sentiment. See our Jan 24 highlights and other videos to get a taster of the "what's changing this month in England's empty rates arena?" The federal budget comes out on April 16. Some of the recommendations listed in the pre-budget consultation report that are relevant to the sector are: 178: Invest in the development and implementation of a national action strategy on volunteerism. 181: Fund a workforce development strategy in collaboration with the charitable sector. 227: Streamline granting processes to make them more accessible and support multi‐year funding. 311: Before proceeding with the proposed changes to the Alternative Minimum Tax, determine the impact these changes will have on charitable revenues by conducting an independent economic and financial analysis.

** IMPORTANT ** Just in case you haven't seen this - in the Northland Regional Council's Long Term Plan consultation document, they are proposing that the Emergency Services Fund be completely scrapped. This will impact, not just the Northland Rescue Helicopter, but St Johns Northern Region, Surf Life Saving Northern Region, Coastguard Northern region, Northland & Far North Search & Rescue & Far North Radio & Sea Rescue. Some incredibly valuable support services in Northland that we all know someone who would have required support from at sometime in the past. The Northland Rescue Helicopter has suggested the following three actions to create a submission to the NRC & make sure your voice is heard on this super important service: 🙌 Go to nrc.govt.nz/futureplan. You are required to provide a name & contact details, and it is possible to vote on this issue alone if you wish. 🙌 Email submissions@nrc.govt.nz telling NRC you want the Emergency Services Fund continued. This is the simplest and quickest method. 🙌 Contact them at donate@nest.org.nz or phone us on 0800 2 RESCUE ext.5 and they can provide assistance to you. Please take a few minutes to ensure you convey your support to these incredible services, most of which have a huge amount of volunteer hours into supporting also - they truly need every dollar we are able to provide & the proposed changes from NRC would save each household just $12 per year. #kerikeridistrictbusinessassociation

👇🏽 Insight into Leeds Community Foundation and the impact grants make across Leeds to communities. Really powerful to read about what drives businesses to be involved with the Foundation. Esther Venning from Hill Dickinson LLP (Leeds) “… we’re helping so many worthy causes right across the region. Particularly those that often struggle to otherwise be seen… the more the business community supports Leeds Community Foundation the greater the impact they can achieve across the city…” #leeds #charity #crs #socialimpact #supportlocal https://lnkd.in/e-iFJSYk

You may have heard that the Government is currently developing a framework to reset its relationship with civil society organisations. The Civil Society Covenant Framework is a new agreement which is designed to: • support collaboration between civil society organisations and government, and protect the independence of civil society organisations • ensure respect for the different roles played by government and civil society • support all public bodies and civil society organisations. NCVO are coordinating the engagement process for the Covenant and its draft principles. The engagement process is targeted specifically towards representatives of civil society organisations, which includes charities, community groups, social enterprises, cooperatives, trusts, foundations and other charitable funding bodies. VCSE Sector organisations are therefore encouraged to share their thoughts on the draft principles via the online feedback form. This is an important and valuable opportunity to shape the final version of the Covenant Framework, and ensure this helps to support and create a more sustainable and effective VCSE sector and relationship with all levels of government. Please note that the deadline for feedback to be provided through the online form is midday on Thursday 12th December 2024. You can find more information about the Civil Society Covenant Framework via the link below. https://lnkd.in/eySpBjXT

As we all busy ourselves with dissecting the #Letta report, and anticipate the forthcoming #Draghi report, I wanted to flag up the existence of a 'Third Report' - which is in fact the *first* report, having come out in March ahead of the others. This Report', is the result of a three day high-level meeting held at the end of 2023 in Portugal and convened by EuropaNova, Guillaume Klossa and isabelle NEGRIER--and I had the privilege of contributing to its writing and editing. The high-level meeting - set to become an annual gathering - brought together 50 committed European leaders, from across countries and disciplines - we called it Conclave. The question was the usual one - what is to be done? the answers are here: https://lnkd.in/eTpDzj2R The answers are ambitious - and urgent. In this respect, with its emphasis on defence, technology, and democratic participation (but also with its sensitivity to the specific nature of European public goods), the Conclave report claims its spot amongst the developing trilogy of calls for radical and ambitious change for the EU. We feel privileged to have contributed to this moment - and to pave the way for the Europe of tomorrow.
