🪨 How does copper go from ore to wire? 🪣 The processing begins with mining the ore (less than 1% copper) and ends with sheets of 99.99% pure copper called cathodes. ⛏️ 90% of copper ore comes from open-pit mining. ⚡ It's estimated that close to 70% of all copper produced worldwide is used as wiring in electrical applications. Don’t believe the hype. The United States is considered a net exporter of copper ore and copper concentrate, meaning it exports more copper ore than it imports; this is primarily due to its domestic mining operations producing more copper than is needed for domestic consumption, leading to the export of excess ore to be further processed elsewhere. Passing of this bill would only allow foreign mining companies even easier and quicker access to America’s and Arizona’s resources. Which will ultimately be exported. Mining South Africa rose by 0.3% in August 2024, led by increases in manganese, PGMs, and chromium ore. However, declines in iron ore and gold production tempered the growth. The country's mineral production grows by 5.9% in January 2024. In January 2024, the mineral production index for mining and quarrying was 144.1, which is 5.9% higher than January 2023. The cumulative growth from April to January 2023-24 compared to the previous year is 8.3%. The production levels of important minerals in January 2024 were also provided. Some minerals showed positive growth, such as Magnesite, Copper Conc., Coal, Limestone, Bauxite, Manganese Ore, Natural gas (U), Lead Conc., Iron Ore, Lignite, Zinc Conc., and Petroleum (crude). However, Gold, Chromite, and Phosphorite showed negative growth. Platinum Mining Industry South Africa's platinum mining industry faces irreversible decline due to low prices and rising competition from battery electric vehicles. Platinum price has fallen 13% since last year to $939/oz. Palladium price dropped 40% in 2023 and 10% so far this year. South African platinum output expected to fall ~10% over next five years to ~3.5moz from current 3.9moz.
