Too much similarly can be a bad thing: Homogenous groups are associated with subjective well-being (due to perceived social cohesion) but too much similarity is linked to lower social cohesion & lower well-being. Adding diversity is linked to greater social cohesion & well-being (N=24,726) https://lnkd.in/e9GaRe9S

Social conflicts arise when individuals or groups have opposing interests, values, or needs, leading to tension and disputes within a society. These conflicts can stem from economic disparities, cultural differences, political disagreements, or social inequalities. While conflicts can be destructive, they also serve as catalysts for social change by highlighting underlying issues and prompting dialogue and reform. Effectively managing social conflicts through negotiation, understanding, and compromise is crucial for maintaining social harmony and fostering a more equitable society.

Due to complexity of conceptualization and operationalization, “social capital” does not have a single definition. How can it? Just in consideration of our ideological differences, one can imagine thousands of context-specific possibilities. Even sociologists, specialists in the field of human behavior, frequently disagree on the definition of “social capital”. We can safely say, however, that social capital refers to networks of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively. It encompasses the shared values, norms, trust, and reciprocity that bind individuals together into groups and facilitate cooperation for mutual benefit. Now, let’s consider the words of history’s great thinkers on the topic of social capital! The Big List Of Quotes On Social Capital - https://lnkd.in/g5W94GuH

The 2024 IoD Convention aims to highlight the concept of social capital and its role in fostering economic growth and enhancing the social wellbeing of our community. But first, we need to understand the importance of social capital. Social capital is important because it represents the productive benefits of sociability. It's the shared values, norms, trust, and belonging that make social exchange possible. Our society, economy, institutions, and political system could not exist without social capital. Mr Claridge's research into Guernsey's social capital will help us probe change for the better of our local community, enabling collaboration and cooperation. You can read more about the importance of social capital from Tristan Claridge, the headline speaker of the 2024 convention, here: https://lnkd.in/gNS9QQAc #IoDGuernsey #IoDConvention
