Trauma Disconnects us from Emotions Do You Feel Numb Instead of Sad, Angry, or Even Happy? If you've ever felt emotionally NUMB—like you're watching your life from the outside— --you’re not broken! This is a reality that so many survivors experience. It’s your body protecting you after trauma. Let’s talk about reconnecting with yourself. 💔 Emotional disconnection is a survival mechanism. It’s your mind and body shielding you from pain that once felt unbearable. The truth is you CAN feel again—at your own pace, in a way that feels safe. Here’s how to start reconnecting with your emotions: 1️⃣ Start Small– Focus on physical sensations. Notice textures, smells, or sounds around you to slowly tune back into your body. Get in touch with your 5 senses. Name what you see, feel, hear, taste, and smell outloud. 2️⃣ Move Gently– Try simple stretches, move your hips, or even placing both hands over your heart. Movement helps awaken stored emotions. I find that circle 8's are very effective. 3️⃣ Journal Without Judgment– Write “I feel...” and let the words flow. Even if it’s just “numb,” it’s a start. And celebrate that you took that step! 4️⃣ Create Safety– Remind yourself, especially your little one inside: you’re safe now. I am the adult and I will protect you and keep you safe. Healing isn’t about forcing yourself to feel everything at once—it’s about opening a door, one gentle step at a time and being compassionate with yourself as you would a small child. 💌 Does this resonate?
