Are you angry about the latest events around DV? Are you frustrated that nothing seems to change or get done? Well, stop getting angry, do something positive. To coin a phrase - stop talking, get walking. Work is happening in the family violence space, if you want it to happen faster - then contribute to events like the below. This year, I am heading up a team that is literally going to Run Against Violence (well, some of us are going to be walking during the challenge) You could head up a team, too. Do you have friends who are active walkers or park runners? Could you find 19 of them? Then, over 19 days, the team races other teams over a distance of 1300km. Why 1300km? The 1300 km covered equates to 1.7 million steps. That's the estimated number of Australians who experienced physical abuse before the age of 15. Set up a team! Join mine! or donate. Run Against Violence funds programs that work to prevent this from ever happening in the first place. It aims to build communities where family violence does not exist. For 19 days in 2017, solo ultramarathon runner, Kirrily Dear ran 1300km from Broken Hill to Sydney to give a voice to the often silent victims of family violence. Family and domestic violence is increasingly being recognised as the social challenge of our time. Public conversation around the issue is building; however, we often overlook the children - those who hear and see the violence or are directly targeted. Too often, these children don’t have the chance to tell their own story. In 2017 we asked the nation to stop and listen to these young people. Rego is now open for the 2024 Virtual Challenge and we would love to see you join us for this very important journey.
