In the SERIGO project, we are working to support vulnerable groups in European #RuralAreas🌍 But what exactly does "vulnerability" mean? This term often lacks a clear, universally accepted definition🤔 In our initial conceptual framework, we aimed to shed some light on this. According to the literature reviewed, #vulnerability is a state of susceptibility to harm from various stressors -social, economic, political, or institutional-. It often involves powerlessness, marginalisation, and limited capacity to adapt⚠️ Want to learn more? 🔗 Visit our website for deeper insights: https://lnkd.in/eyTvPW6r University of Eastern Finland AEIDL (European Association for Innovation in Local Development) Rural Sociology Eurac Research Centre for Social Innovation ESOGU ETTOM MKN Itä-Suomi | Rural Women´s Advisory Centre (RWAC) of Eastern Finland PRIZMA - Fundacija za izboljšanje zaposlitvenih možnosti FACHHOCHSCHULE KÄRNTEN ESIRA Project RURACTIVE FLIARA Project

🌟 #SERIGO will explore both the capacity and limitations of socially innovative solutions in enhancing social inclusion and equitability. But, how❓ We will combine: 1️⃣ Desk #research: review of primary data, academic and policy literature. 2️⃣ Action research: Empirical data will be gathered in 13 case studies over Europe. 3️⃣ Field work: We will co-create 5 experimental pilot actions to test the solutions and provide support to vulnerable groups. At the same time, we will co-create and validate the research results and policy findings through a Community of Practice☑ Find out more on our website: www.serigo-project.eu #RuralDevelopment University of Eastern Finland AEIDL (European Association for Innovation in Local Development) Rural Sociology Eurac Research Centre for Social Innovation ESOGU ETTOM MKN Itä-Suomi | Rural Women´s Advisory Centre (RWAC) of Eastern Finland PRIZMA - Fundacija za izboljšanje zaposlitvenih možnosti

Being involved in a process where we can feel like an active force in effective participatory mechanisms is increasingly crucial. Ensuring alignment between our objectives and the passionate advocacy of those we encounter poses an even more pressing challenge. It's also about upholding credibility and trust in our actions. In this report, as we traverse the Alps, Carpathians, and the Sudetes, we have strived to add our contribution, building upon the resolute efforts of others we encountered. . . . Migration as a Social Construction: A Reflexive Turn | 21st Annual Conference of #IMISCOE network The conference programme is now available here: https://lnkd.in/dRmPt99p.
As coordinator of the IMISCOE network, CEDEM has assisted the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-ISCTE ) at the University Institute of Lisbon in the organization of the 2024 annual IMISCOE conference, one of the largest academic event in the world in the area of migration. Once again, Jean-Michel Lafleur (Coordinator), Daniela Vintila (Coordinator), Angeliki Konstantinidou (Network Officer) and Carole Wenger (Communication Officer) have been actively preparing this event. This year, the conference theme tackles the question of the reflexive turn in migration studies. This topic that was skillfully selected and developed by the host (CIES-ISCTE) echoes many research lines of CEDEM whose researcher will be well represented in the panels, workshops and events of the conference. 👥 You will meet there the IMISCOE Team of course, but also Marco Martiniello, Elsa Mescoli, Alice Clarebout, Shannon Gouppy, Shannon Damery, Félicien de Heusch, MANDIN Jérémy, Ismail Oubad, and EuMIGS MA students 📄 The full program of the event can be found here: https://lnkd.in/drQsg6W8

One of the most disputed aspects in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine is that of territorial concessions - a typical "land for peace" deal. While many international experts (and pseudo-experts) regularly discuss this issue, the opinion of Ukrainian society is seldom considered in more detail. The renowned Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) has now published it's opinion poll data on the Discuss Data platform in open access. The data provides rich detail, and I encourage everyone interested in this topic to work with and dig deeper into the data. Link in first comment.

"The paradox arises, argues de Haas, because governments in the west – committed, as they are, to forms of economic liberalism – are constantly trying to balance three competing demands. One is to remain open to global markets, which requires a degree of immigration to fill domestic skills shortages. Another is to protect the rights of those immigrants who do arrive to work, study or settle. A third is to respect the wishes of citizens who wish to see immigration limited or even reduced. The problem is that only two of the three can be fulfilled at any one time. Reduce people’s rights to work or settle and you disrupt the smooth running of the economy. Advocating open borders, on the other hand, is widely regarded as political suicide. So what most governments opt for instead are symbolic crackdowns – often harmful and counterproductive – on certain types of immigration. Or as De Haas puts it: “bold acts of political showmanship that conceal the true nature of immigration policies”." The Guardian

👩🏫 The conference "𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒚 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 (𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇)𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏" is the final event of the 𝐼𝑛𝑅𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜 project. ✨ 𝐆𝐢𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢 was awarded with a #MSCA Individual Fellowship in 2020 and carried it out at the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology, Università degli Studi di Padova. 🎯 Her project aims to propose a rearticulation of philosophy's (educational) role within contemporary democratic societies. The research aims to turn 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑗𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑒𝑠 against philosophy upside down (i.e. lack of scientificity, abstractness, uselessness) and emphasise philosophy's contribution to societal challenges.
