Do you want to progress to a Partner level role? I spend a lot of time talking to candidates about this and a lot of the time, they know there’s potential for partnership with their firm but it can come with very vague timescales. I’m currently working with one of my Fife based clients who are looking to recruit an experienced Solicitor to join the firm where clear progression and training plan will be in place from day 1. I think this is genuinely one of the best opportunities available in the Fife market and would be ideal for an experienced Private Client or Conveyancing Solicitor who’s looking to quickly progress in their career. There’s often a misconception that you have to take a significant pay cut when you move away from a city firm but I’m finding this to be case less and less with some extremely competitive packages available. So if you're currently commuting to Edinburgh from Fife, are originally from the area or are thinking about moving away from the city – get in touch as I think you might be surprised to hear what’s available in terms of salary, career progression and work/life balance. As always, calls are completely confidential and a call with me doesn’t mean you’re committing to applying for a role – I know any move is a big decision so I’m always happy to have a chat to give you an overview of the market so you can make an informed choice. 📞 0131 226 3686 ✉ zoe.macmillan@reed.com #reedlegal #legaljobs #solicitorjobs #newjob Kate Irvine Kenza Watson

I've had a few conversations with Legal 500 Partners of late about WHY private client solicitors in Scotland are staying put right now. So hear me out: It's hard for you to hire at present. It’s not just about the salaries or the prestige. It’s about being IN THE RIGHT PLACE at the right time. They WANT STABILITY. Not the “coasting along” kind of stability. The real “I know my team, my workload, my future” kind. They NEED BALANCE. Not the “work from home every now and then” kind. But the “2 days in, 3 days out, and time for life” balance that makes them say, “Why would I leave?” They SEE THE MARKET. Job offers are there, sure, but so are counteroffers, economic jitters, worldwide instability and firms fighting tooth and nail to keep them. They FEEL THE CHANGE. Post-pandemic, work isn’t just work anymore. It’s mental health, it’s hybrid working, it’s “will this move make my life better?” They KNOW THEIR WORTH. Because now, the roles aren’t just filling gaps—they’re strategic. They’re future-focused. And private client is RECESSION PROOF. And firms are finally listening. So if you’re wondering why they’re not moving... It’s not fear. It’s not laziness. It’s knowing EXACTLY what they want—and not settling for less. So be prepared to meet them there. #privateclient #legalcareers #law #lawjobs #legalrecruitment

WARNING NOISE ALERT! Whilst I may appear to be more understated than some of my RR colleagues, I do love loud music and a good gig. So last night I went to Project House in Leeds to see a band called Terror. I first saw them around 20 years ago and they still hit hard. Good to get that energy out although my days of stage diving are long gone. Now you may be thinking what has this got to do with employment law? Well, we do find that Employment Tribunal claims fill clients with TERROR! But never fear Robinson Ralph is here! Robinson Ralph supports employers with employment tribunal claims from beginning to end. This includes liaising with Acas, the tribunal and the claimant(’s representative), drafting the response form, providing advice on the merits of the claim and suggesting options to resolve it as quickly and cheaply as possible, collating the bundle of documents, drafting statements, cross-examination and closing submissions, as well as conducting the advocacy at the Tribunal. In addition, we offer employers access to an insurance policy which covers the costs of representation, awards and settlements. Finally, our mock employment tribunals are an effective and enjoyable way of showing investigation, disciplinary and appeal hearing officers, the importance of following a fair process, without having to incur the cost and risk of a real tribunal. Feedback includes: • “Absolutely brilliant, engaging, informative and fun.” • “Such a brilliant day.” • “Thanks so much for a fun and insightful session”. If you would like to know more about our employment tribunal representation, insurance or mock tribunals, please email info@robinsonralph.com, call 0113 212 3240 or book a free no obligation chat here https://lnkd.in/eZPQZuWa. #employmenttribunal #insurance #mocktribunal #humanresource #hardcoreemploymentlawyers

Entry-level lawyers often find themselves at a crossroads when comparing their salaries to those in call centers or sales departments. It's no secret that the latter offers higher pay right from the start, and yes, I won't deny feeling a tinge of jealousy at times. But the legal profession is a marathon, not a sprint. The journey we embark on today is filled with learning, challenges, and growth that will shape us into experts in our field. While the rewards may seem distant, time and perseverance will bring us the success we aim for. To all young professionals out there—keep hustling, stay patient, and trust the process. Our time will come! #LegalProfession #CareerGrowth #StayMotivated

Well said !! 👏🏻 To truly nurture talent, corporations need to invest in comprehensive training, diverse work experiences, and competitive compensation. Supporting emerging lawyers in these areas can lead to more fulfilling careers and better outcomes for both the individuals and the organization. #LegalCareer #ProfessionalDevelopment #TalentManagement #CorporateCulture #Compensation
High time we as lawyers should give it back in their faces and not accept any sort of exploitation in the name of experience. And the salary I asked for is less than what I'm currently drawing just to see how low one can offer. #advocatesexploitation

Don't let others determine the rungs on your career ladder—whether it's society's expectations, your colleagues, or your bosses. In the legal profession, there's often an expectation for solicitors to climb as high as possible on the metaphorical corporate ladder, aiming to obtain a partnership role. But is that the trajectory you truly want to take, or is it something you've been led to believe by those around you is the only path to "success"? Success is relative. At Taylor Rose Australia, our consultants define success on their terms—being home for dinner, spending quality time with their families, investing in their physical and mental health, and taking the breaks they need to perform at their best. Additionally, our consultants have the opportunity to make great and equitable money, earning 70-80% of their billings, providing a competitive remuneration package that reflects their hard work and dedication. So, consider stepping off the ladder and enjoying the freedom of legal consultancy with us! Strongly Disagree with the post. and this needed to be reposted with thoughts. No hard feelings for the author of this post, yet using phrases like " despite my 2+ years" proves how less exposed, to the vastness of legal issues, the author of this post still is! The confidence is commedable though! The problem is not in dreaming about a 5 -6-7- figure salary, the problem with such fresh graduates is in the ATTITUDE. Decision to become a lawyer comes with a lot of burden,& duties..it demands patience and perseverance. It demands trust and years of yesmanship towards your senior/firm. It demands developing excellence without asking/ thinking about the perks. (& Goes without saying, in the starting 2-5 years, your Prada-Gucci dream purchases may not be considered but your travel and subsistence allowances will be definitely taken care of and you, a loyal hardworking Junior, will never be left high and dry by your senior! ) Being a lawyer, is not just another 'job' which can be compared to a daily wager Sad on the part of the author!. It is a cause, and yes, it comes with a lot of liabilities in the beginning. You have to invest a lot in it. People, even with financial burden back at their homes, toil for years and even then, they never claim perfection, never ask for a fixed salary as if it is their right, they term themselves as a "work in progress". After my law school, I was once told by a senior , "If you have decided to be a lawyer, forget about money in the beginning, and just focus on learning...money will start to flow on its own." Your attitude being a NQ lawyer should be positive. Why don't you promise your employer that within 3-4 months of induction, you will become a better lawyer and then propose a salary/raise subject to the confirmation by the employer ? Hardwork and honesty never goes unnoticed. I mean, how can an applicant quote a fixed salary for just 2+ years of his practice & that too with a past employer? Different seniors, different work expectations, results, different rewards. Just like Lawyers don't have a fixed MRP, a junior cannot have a fixed salary. Also, A lawyer with a vast scope of developing new skill sets under the guidance of a senior can't be compared to maids/labour class/watchmen, who have no option but to stick to the same, limited set of duties everyday and have not much to learn from their employer. You may be a postgraduate, Ph.d or a couple of years' experienced lawyer, you must understand that a senior/a reputed law firm recruiting you is adding to your existing knowledge and skill sets on a daily basis, contrary to the case of daily wagers / labourers. Imparting knowledge, new skill sets, itself covers a major portion of "salary and perks" , as the same is capable of being converted into prospective work, clients and opportunities. It is ridiculous to ask for the training in a dynamic field like law and a static salary at the same time. #foodforthought #seniors #freshgraduates #lawyers
