⚡ Saturday saw some colleagues from Fletchers Solicitors, Serious Injury Law and Cycle SOS light up Manchester city as they took to the #LightsUp event designed to bring awareness to the significant drop in the number of women cycling through the darker and winter months, through various barriers. 🔦 The ride aimed to empower women to reclaim the dark by being visible and being seen. Participant bikes were illuminated and decorated, as the riders travelled through the streets and parks of Manchester, before finishing in Victoria Baths with a party for the cyclists. 💡 With over 150 riders in attendance, including Nadia Kerr, Faye P. and Jayne Orme, and plenty of spectators cheering from the sidelines, it was a hugely successful evening. 🚨 Partner in our Cycle SOS team, Nadia said: “Only 10% of women in Manchester regularly cycle which is a saddening statistic. A fear of traffic is always given as the main barrier to cycling, which impacts men and women alike, although women seem to vote more with their feet in response to it. 🕯 The Lights Up event focused on raising confidence amongst women and together we claimed the streets as a collective. 🚦 Cycling has immeasurable physical and mental health benefits, and we want to ensure that women in and around the city can ride confidently and safely in the dark. The event was well attended and it was fantastic to see so many spectators talking to us along the route; it was inspiring to see so many women championing the cause of cycling – and it was a privilege to be involved.” 🙂 Thank you to Station South , Bee Pedal Ready , The Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, Cycling UK and Starling Bikes. #LightsUp #DiscoOnWheels #ReclaimTheStreets #WomenInCycling #CyclingSafety
