🔵 Join Our Team: Making a Difference in Environmental Health at the City of Coppell Over 15 years ago, I walked into the city of Coppell's Environmental Health office as a young man looking for a job that would fulfill three objectives: human interaction, decision-making, and innovation. Let me explain. I wanted these things for these reasons:  1️⃣ Human interaction: I was searching for a job that would enable me to interact with people and build relationships with them.  2️⃣ Decision-making:  I was looking for a job where my supervisors trusted me to make decisions. 3️⃣ Innovation: Finally, I was seeking a job that would encourage me to experiment and innovate. ✅ The city of Coppell provided me with precisely what I was looking for and more. They offered me an opportunity to serve our residents and establish relationships with them, make important decisions that improved the lives of residents and business owners, and learn through trial and error. The organization invested in my development, providing opportunities to improve my skills and serve the organization in numerous roles. Today, I am the Assistant Director of the Community Development department, and we are seeking an Environmental Health Specialist (Health Inspector) to fill the same position I started with. We can’t adequately or appropriately address climate change without addressing environmental justice and working closely with those most impacted by the complex problems facing disproportionately impacted communities in the Interior West.    The Equity and Community Engagement Manager will support WRA’s conservation policymaking and advocacy work through just policies that drive equitable outcomes. The Equity and Community Engagement Manager will foster equity efforts by coaching and supporting WRA team members concerning shared principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, as well as exploring opportunities to strengthen partnerships with diverse communities, individuals, and coalitions. It got me thinking, how do you respond to that? But here's the thing: we health and safety officers aren't the "fun police" or the "job stoppers" – far from it! We're part of the team, working alongside you to ensure that everyone goes home safe and sound at the end of the day. 🛠️🔒 Our goal isn't to make your life difficult or put up roadblocks to productivity. It's quite the opposite! By identifying and mitigating risks, providing training and resources, and promoting a safety-first mindset, we're actually paving the way for smoother operations and greater success. 💪✨ So, let's reframe the narrative: health and safety officers aren't obstacles to overcome – we're your allies, your advocates, and your partners in safety. If we position ourselves as essential contributors to projects, ensuring everyone gets home safe, rather than mere cogs in the wheel of progress, perhaps we'll encounter less resistance and foster a more collaborative environment.
