https://lnkd.in/dCKKCFV2 https://lnkd.in/dZsU8mXs Is your antifoul cost killing you? 1. Reduced effectiveness: Rising water temperatures can create favorable conditions for the growth of fouling organisms such as barnacles, algae, and mollusks. Antifouling paints are specifically designed to inhibit or prevent the attachment and growth of these organisms on boat hulls. However, increased water temperatures can accelerate their growth, making it more challenging for antifouling paints to effectively protect against fouling. This can result in reduced efficiency and increased fouling on boat hulls. 2. Increased cleaning frequency: With a decrease in the effectiveness of antifouling paints, boat owners may need to clean their hulls more frequently to remove accumulating fouling organisms. Regular hull cleaning helps maintain the vessel's performance, fuel efficiency, and overall speed. However, increased cleaning frequency can be time-consuming, costly, and may require divers or specialized equipment, adding to the workload and expenses for boat owners. 3. Higher maintenance costs: Boat owners might need to invest in more expensive or advanced antifouling paints that offer enhanced protection against the effects of rising water temperatures. These paints may contain additional active ingredients or technologies to combat fouling in warmer waters. This can lead to increased maintenance costs for boat owners as higher-priced paints are often required for better efficiency in warmer environments. 4. Changing application requirements: As water temperatures rise, boat owners may need to adjust their antifouling paint application methods and schedules. Some paints require specific temperature ranges for application and curing, and warmer waters may necessitate modifications in coating thickness, drying times, or the selection of different paint formulations to ensure optimal performance. This can create additional challenges and complexities for boat owners and may require them to seek professional advice or assistance in selecting and applying suitable paints. 5. Environmental concerns: While antifouling paints play a crucial role in preventing biofouling, they can have adverse impacts on marine ecosystems due to the release of toxic substances. As water temperatures rise, the increased cleaning and application of these paints may lead to more extensive pollution and environmental damage. Boat owners should be mindful of selecting environmentally friendly antifouling paints and adhere to proper disposal practices to minimize their ecological footprint. In summary, global warming and rising water temperatures can negatively impact the efficiency of antifouling paints, leading to increased cleaning, maintenance costs, and changes in application requirements for boat owners. Addressing these challenges requires awareness, adaptability. Arivo.online

April 1st marks the first official day of nesting season! 🏖️ 🥰 If you're visiting South Padre Island between April and August, you might just be lucky enough to see the most endangered sea turtle in the world, the Kemp's ridley, nesting on our shores. Here's how you can help keep nesting females safe while out on the beach: - Call Sea Turtle Inc (956) 243-4361 to report a nesting female on SPI. - Respect the boundaries & give them space. - Clean up after your beach visits. - Fill in holes & demolish sandcastles. - Drive the speed limit on the beach (10mph). - Educate others: share this post to help us spread the word. Together, we can make a difference and secure a bright future for Kemp's ridley sea turtles!

Fish consumption in Japan has been steadily declining, especially among younger generations, primarily due to the hassle of dealing with fish bones. This has prompted researchers to develop "boneless fish" to make fish easier to eat. At Shiga Prefectural University, Professor Shozo Sugiura is pioneering a technique to produce fish with softer, edible bones by modifying the fish's diet. His team created a feed low in phosphorus, a key element in bone hardness. When fish consume this feed, their bone density reduces to about 70% of the usual, making the bones soft enough to eat while maintaining the fish’s structure. The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has noted that fish consumption has been in decline since 2001, with the younger population being particularly averse to bones. Efforts like the “boneless fish” project may encourage fish consumption by addressing these practical concerns, potentially leading to a shift in dietary trends. #japan #fish #seafood #ocean #trend #foodtech https://lnkd.in/gJKFuYc2

4 things staying in an Eco-Village in Costa Rica taught me: 1. Pura Vida Stop overcomplicating life. Most of the time, it’s much simpler than we think. Slow down and enjoy. 2. Permaculture Learn to blend with nature rather than trying to "fix" it to fit your needs. It's about coexisting and working with natural systems, not against them. 3. Preserve Nature Take care of your home and the land you find yourself in, always. By doing that, you make a bigger difference than you realize. 4. Fire It brings people together, especially when that fire burns within. What did you learn from your recent travels ?
