Northern Corridor from Wutung to Wewak u under design phase and soon to commence in 2025.
🚧 Project Update: Northern Corridor Development 🚧 We are excited to share that the Momase Project, officially known as the Preparation of the Feasibility Study and Detailed Engineering Design for the Northern Corridor (Momase International Highway) between Wutung and Angoram, and Vanimo and Wewak Ports (NPC/2020 – 28) is well underway! This crucial project funded by the Asian Development Bank covers the 440-kilometer stretch from the PNG/Indonesian border at Wutung near Vanimo to Wewak, and includes the upgrading of Vanimo and Wewak ports. This corridor is set to play a pivotal role in boosting economic growth along the northern coast of Papua New Guinea. Recently, our consulting team held a successful workshop, this time presenting invaluable results from the feasibility study conducted by the joint venture (Finnish Overseas Consultants (FinnOC) / DOHWA Engineering / SOOSUNG Engineering Co., Ltd.). Our findings suggest that the Project is economically highly viable. The insights and feedback received from our stakeholders are instrumental as we refine our plans and move towards designing the new corridor, the total construction costs of which are estimated to be 1.5 billion USD. A big thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and invaluable views. We are especially grateful for DOWH and DOT for their continuous trust. Together, we are making a significant impact on the region's infrastructure and economic future! #PapuaNewGuinea #MomaseInternationalHighway #Vanimo #Wewak #InfrastructureDevelopment #EconomicGrowth #AsianDevelopmentBank #EngineeringDesign #Workshop

📚 Today, UNIDO Ukraine launched the National Guiding Framework of Standards and Technical Regulations for the Green Reconstruction of Ukraine. A very practical report, especially for the experts in the energy, construction, and transport sectors. It outlines: ▶ The context of Ukraine’s green reconstruction ▶ A guiding framework on standards and regulations ▶ A catalogue of relevant European and international standards ▶ Analysis of key public and private actors ▶ Future steps for implementation 🔍 The report highlights several important gaps: - Absence of product standards in Ukraine for key materials like “green cement, concrete, steel.” - Lack of monitoring and coordination for adopting harmonized standards. - Limited awareness among stakeholders on using these standards. Key recommendations include: ✅ Integrating sustainability criteria in all public procurement contracts. ✅ Central authorities establishing monitoring procedures for standards in priority sectors based on EU best practices. ✅ The Ukrainian Agency for Standardization (UAS) creating training materials on incorporating sustainability into reconstruction efforts. In addition to working on translation and support with adoption of the needed standards on the national level, UNIDO will also launch soon a training program for trainers, aimed at empowering stakeholders to apply sustainable standards in procurement and beyond. Congrats to Pavlo Ladetskyi Anastasiia Konstantynova, Ph.D. & the team with this impressive work!
