October is officially here, which means it's time to shine a light on National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM). Consider this: How can we reframe conversations around disability from a “limitation” narrative to one that centers around support, inclusion, and flexibility? Inclusive leadership tip: Instead of making assumptions around limitations, let’s shift the conversation to building a sense of understanding and finding ways to embrace DIFFERENT abilities. A great way to celebrate Disability Pride Month and beyond is to hire people with disabilities. Right now, 85% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are unemployed. Many of them want to work and have skills to contribute. Among those who are employed, people with IDD are working fewer than 13 hours a week on average and less than one-fifth of them are getting workplace benefits. But research shows that disability inclusion is a proven good business decision.
