Why I’m Supporting City Harvest This Year! This year, I’ve made a change in how I operate as a recruiter. Alongside helping clients and candidates, I’ve committed to donating a portion of my placement fees to City Harvest London , a charity dedicated to fighting hunger and reducing food waste. Why City Harvest? City Harvest London and Daniel Nicholls team takes surplus food from across London’s food industry and redistributes it to charities, food banks, and community groups that feed those in need. Just £1 provides four meals, making every donation incredibly impactful. In a world where so much food is wasted while people go hungry, their work is a vital solution to two major challenges. Right now, during The Big Give Christmas Challenge, every donation is doubled! That means my donation provides 8000 meals for those in need! UPDATED 08/21/2024: We want to thank the amazing community for their support, please keep sharing and let's gather all the equipment and items we need to get Closet Share up and running. Closet Share is a community-focused program dedicated to collecting local clothing donations, washing and sorting them into tiers, and cataloging them on an online store for community members to access. We provide affordable clothing solutions through a tiered system, with Tier 1 offering free clothing for low-income families and organizations, and Tier 2 allowing the broader community to purchase items at low costs. Additionally, our Boxes of Rags program repurposes unusable textiles to prevent them from ending up in landfills, contributing to environmental sustainability. We are excited to announce that we have recently leased a warehouse to expand our operations. Unfortunately, we did not receive the government funding we applied for, and the warehouse requires some renovations to get it functioning for our program. We need various supplies, and if you have any items that you would be interested in donating to Closet Share, we would greatly appreciate it. We are also always looking for volunteers to help with the growth and building of Closet Share's warehouse. Last year was incredible for A Good Thing – over 1.8 million things were donated to charities across the UK! A huge thank you to the 92 organisations that listed offers and supported our mission to send less to landfill and more to a good cause. Together, we’ve saved charities over £600,000; what an excellent achievement. On average, there was a new offer on the platform every day in 2023, as many of our businesses and charities adopted A Good Thing as part of their waste management processes. A fascinating array of items were listed and snapped up by local charities. We’ve seen it all, from carpet tiles to chargers, furniture to face masks, ladders to lanyards, pens, pencils and even a baby grand piano! – they’ve all found a new home via the A Good Thing platform. We’re thrilled that 270 charities have received the things they need to help run their projects. 🎉🎉🎉 None of this would be possible without our fantastic team of volunteers. They are talented and dedicated individuals who generously share their time and skills to support our mission. They help us develop the A Good Thing platform and increase our presence through local outreach, content creation and business development. We simply wouldn’t have achieved all we have in 2023 without them.
