Once upon a time In the bygone era captured in the photo below circa 2013, I once held the esteemed position of the "so-called man" at the world-renowned Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, touted as the number one party destination during its day. Needless to say, I have seen it all and I mean that literally. Social media did not play the same role in society as it does today, so what happened in Vegas actually stayed in Vegas! The experience was nothing short of a thrilling rollercoaster, characterized by organized chaos. Back then, the indispensable gadgets were the Treo Cell phone with the stylist, who remembers those? and Blackberries shout out BBM. We successfully managed substantial nightly volumes from 300-capacity venues to 2500++ at Rain nightclub. Initially relying on Excel sheets for years, we eventually embraced technological advancements, although the solutions at the time posed operational challenges on a nightly basis. If I could revisit those days in a time machine and advise my younger self, envisioning a future with 3D mapping for a seamless check-in process and adept management of the organized chaos, I would eagerly sign up no hesitations asked. For those in the hospitality industry who work operations understanding that the success of a venue, underscores the importance of leveraging technology to empower and ensure the triumph of your staff. Sometimes, I think we could host a trivia night in the middle of an empty field - and we probably have! The places we've set up our quiz nights are as diverse as our questions. Sure, we've done restaurants and offices (yawn, too mainstream for this post). But how about these for unique venues: Golf club? Done. Poolside? Done. Fashion store? Done. Schools and universities? Done. Farm? Done. Ship? Done. Winery? Library? Art gallery? Beach? Old lighthouse? Fire station? Ski resort? In a museum after hours? In a hot air balloon? (The trivia master and participants alike were on cloud nine!) Done, done, done! The photo you see is from one of our very first corporate events, set up in a parking lot. We had nothing but electricity to work with. We brought everything else - tables, chairs, lighting, catering - ourselves. And, of course, our classic game setup: screens, projectors, speakers, and DJ equipment. It shows that you can turn any space into a trivia paradise with the right team and creativity.
