The recognition of the need for additional capital is welcomed but I’m sure those in the sectors still have many questions about how and when this will be available. Feel free to get in touch to discuss what it might mean for you and your organisation.

Hi there Linkedin luminaries! Do you have any examples of community service needs planning at a municipal level? In particular, holistic, integrated and cross organisational approaches. If so please share in the comments below or message me! This is no easy task as the broader you go, the greater the complexity and interdependencies. Our default in Local Government, not surprisingly, is to plan by a particular cohort or subject (e.g. early years/youth services, a sport, a community facility). And nothing wrong with that. But how do you go further? Relevant considerations could include: links to regional efforts, the intersection with Council’s existing community assets, Federal and State Government service delivery, existing local planning strategies (e.g. community visions, municipal health and wellbeing plans, asset plans), the mapping of service providers and their activities operating within a geographic area, and then finally, resourcing and responsibility dynamics for the community service needs planning in question. Would very much welcome your reflections and wisdom!

@NYCMayor & @NYCCouncil: Libraries are an essential resource to New Yorkers people, especially those in low resource communities. Libraries provide a wealth of services, including for some city dwellers their only #access to #technology and the #internet, impact #health. Library accessibility is a matter of #equity. New York City libraries are facing a $58.3 million budget cut that could force most branches to reduce service to just five days a week. If you believe in equity, plz repost. #DayofActionforLibraries #NoCutsToLibraries Rise To Health Coalition NY State Action Coalition New York State Public Health Association https://invest in libraries.org/dayofaction

REPORT 📑 | We know that a torn social fabric lay behind the disorder this summer. Our new paper explores community #cohesion, empowerment and growth in response to the riots across the UK. We believe the government’s communities policy must move from responding to crisis to consistency. We know community cohesion is back on the agenda for government. But cohesion is only part of the story. People need to feel empowered and feel that they are involved in the Government’s national missions for growth. The recommendations put communities in the lead and reflect the importance of places to meet and of support from all levels of government. This paper lays out three steps government needs to take for a communities strategy to have a lasting effect: 1️⃣ 🤝 Invest in community cohesion: new and improved funding to support community ownership of places and spaces where people can connect and meet. 2️⃣ 💪 Empower communities: give more control to local people over certain state spending decisions in their area. 3️⃣ 🌱 Support community-led growth: create a new institution or arms-length body to support community-led institutions contribution to local growth. We’re delighted to be working with SQW and partners on this project. This is part of Homes England’s wider social value work - which is seeking to understand the true benefit/value of housing and regeneration interventions in England….in a HM Treasury Green Book compliant way. We’ve already published five research papers on placemaking benefits; brownfield amenity; health and wellbeing impacts for older people in supported housing; environmental benefits; and reference class forecasting. https://lnkd.in/eay_6NVp We can’t wait to publish the findings of this research, and continue to make our contribution to the wider fields of welfare economics, social value, and economic appraisal. This is also part of the Agency’s relentless approach to delivering schemes in communities. The more we can show the true benefits of housing and regeneration - the more funding we can secure and the faster schemes can be approved, in order to start on site. #WeAreHomesEngland #housing #homes #socialvalue #regeneration
📢 We are pleased to share that SQW (supported by IFF Research, Colin Warnock, Richard Crellin and Dr. Tessa Peasgood) have been appointed by Homes England to better understand the wellbeing impacts that occur when households move from temporary accommodation into social housing. This is particularly timely given the increasing numbers of households in temporary accommodation, which is placing an increasing burden on national and local government finances. It is expected that the outputs of this research will lead to a better understanding of how moving from temporary accommodation into social housing can improve wellbeing, and the wider impacts this can have on adults and children/young people.
