What is informed consent between a Healthcare Professional & Patient? Obtaining informed consent is a healthcare practitioners' ethical obligation as well as a legal duty. Patient capacity must be established on every occasion that an examination or procedure is required. Informed consent refers to the provision of adequate information top the patient, which encompasses: ✔️ The treatment process ✔️ It's benefits ✔️ Risks ✔️The alternatives including doing nothing When responding to a presentation of sexual violence, a healthcare practitioner must be especially sensitive to the complexities and consequences of obtaining valid consent. Informed consent with a patient is discussed in the Responding to Sexual Violence in Adults unit of Monash University’s Sexual Violence Response Training Course.
