📧 Malware Alert: SVG Files Used in Phishing Attacks AhnLab Security Intelligence Center (ASEC) has identified a rise in phishing emails distributing malware through Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files. These files, commonly used for icons and charts, are being exploited by threat actors to deliver malicious content. The emails instruct users to execute the attached SVG files, which open in web browsers. #CyberThreat #PhishingAlert 🔗 Two Malware Types Identified The SVG malware includes downloader and phishing types. Downloader variants use hyperlinks within the SVG file to deliver additional malware, often hosted on legitimate platforms like Dropbox or Bitbucket. The downloaded files, such as AsyncRat, enable information theft and backdoor access. Phishing variants include obfuscated JavaScript that captures and transmits encoded user credentials to the attacker’s server. #CyberSecurity #MalwareAnalysis 🖼️ How It Works SVG files contain hidden code within image elements, making them appear harmless while performing malicious functions.
