𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐮: 𝐟𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞.   🚀 Our journey with SEC-Learn has moved from the concept phase to a tangible process. Join us as we push the boundaries of #neuromorphic and #federatedlearning technologies. To simplify the complexity of the concept, we have created a demonstrator that represents decentralized devices including microphones as a sensor to collect audio data.   🎢 The technology demonstrator, a ball track system called “Ballentine”, located in Ilmenau, is designed to detect three differently coated types of balls running down a metal slide which causes rolling sounds (see pictures). One is made of steel and has a smooth surface (“steel” 🔘 ); one has a special carbon coating called “Diamor®” ⚫ (developed by Fraunhofer IWS to make ball bearings more durable), and one has a scratched surface, which we have defined as “broken” 🌕.   🎵 The surface of each metal ball produces a specific sound, which is analyzed and classified using AI. Fraunhofer IDMT’s acoustic monitoring system reliably detects these classes – even in noisy environments – and processes the recorded audio data close to the sensor.   🕸️ Ballentine has its own local AI model, that knows the acoustic fingerprints of 🌕 and ⚫. Due to a lack of data, however, Ballentine doesn’t yet know 🔘 and wants to learn it from its mate Ballou in Duisburg, who already knows this class from model training.   💡 Instead of exchanging the audio data, Ballou simply sends parameters from its own model training of “steel” 🔘 to Ballentine, who then correctly classifies the “steel” ball as it runs down the metal slide – without having heard it before.
