As the #RejectFinanceBill2024/25 movement led by Gen Z gather pace in Kenya, the government should be soliciting views on how to address some of the challenges with minimal resources not castigating and arresting young people. The organizing power of youth in Kenya is an asset the government should not squander. The Reject Finance Bill movement is a beautiful crisis not to waste. In my article i delve into how climate and unjust transition is part of the foundational issues to be addressed.

As we stand on the brink of another pivotal moment in our nation's history, I am filled with immense pride for the Kenyan youth who are peacefully exercising their constitutional rights to express their displeasure with the Kenyan Government and its choices. The energy and determination of our young people demonstrate that they are not merely the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of today. As we prepare to protest the 2024 Finance Bill with the hashtag #RejectFinanceBill2024, we are not just opposing a punitive bill. We are standing against a legacy of bad governance that has hindered our potential as a nation. We are demanding accountability and transparency in governance, which impacts every sector and every industry. When we look back at this moment, I want to proudly say that I stood for accountability in governance. The government cannot simply dismiss these protests as the concerns of a young and uninformed youth because that is far from the truth. Our youth are informed, passionate, and ready to lead our country towards a brighter future. I stand in solidarity with the Kenyan youth as we come together to protest not only the punitive Finance Bill that is anti business and anti development but also the systemic issues of bad governance that have stifled our progress. Reject the Finance Bill. Reject bad governance. Let us continue to strive for a Kenya where our voices are heard, our rights are respected, and our future is secured. #RejectFinanceBill2024 #YouthForChange #AccountabilityInGovernance #UwituCreative

In the tapestry of governance, transparency emerges as the vital thread binding leaders to their pledge of accountability, fairness, and perpetual societal growth. It embodies a commitment to openness, fostering a climate where integrity flourishes and trust blooms. With transparency as our compass, we chart a course where governance transcends rhetoric, embracing inclusivity and responsiveness. It's a journey marked by dialogue, ensuring that every decision reflects the shared values of a dynamic and evolving society. #Youth4Integrity.WELEAD TRUST Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development ZIMCODD Zimbabwe Youth Council Morgan Tatsvareyi Dain Mazambara

This week we celebrated 20 years since the 2004 enlargement when 10 countries joined the EU family. Over the last 20 years, the unemployment rates of the then-new EU Countries have been cut by half while poverty & social exclusion levels have fallen from 37% in 2005 to 17% in 2020. The achievements are largely thanks to the European Social Fund and Cohesion Policy. They've been crucial in supporting public investment, especially in the new Member States. I had the privilege of co-writting this piece for National Day for Truth and Reconcilaition with Jeffrey Cyr. We discuss turning promises of Reconciliation into measurable progress and the work we’re spearheading at Raven Indigenous Outcomes Funds. “Outcomes finance aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, placing control firmly in the hands of those most affected. This approach not only ensures efficient use of resources, but also empowers communities to define success on their own terms.” #Indigenous #Reconciliation #UNDRIP #OutcomesFinance https://lnkd.in/ePaPv6T6
