It's important to remember that not all disabilities are visible! Sometimes the struggles people face are internal and just as challenging. It can be super tough to open up about those invisible disabilities, so let's create a safe space for sharing. We need to listen and be supportive when someone does choose to share their story. Your experiences are valid and deserve to be heard. 💖 #InvisibleDisabilities #DisabilityAwareness #Empathy

Picture this: A person with a disability. How many of you thought of someone in a wheelchair? Of course that is just one of the types of disabilities. But 100% of people will be disabled one way or another, with age. #Inclusion is about creating a world which is truly a place for everyone. It's about creating a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can participate fully and equally. Sometimes the disabilities are not even visible. Today, on the International day of People with Disabilities, let's not just observe, but engage in meaningful conversations and convert those conversations into action. Let's build an accessible future for all. #IDPD #DisabilityRights #InclusionForAll

A prevalent misunderstanding about people with disabilities is that they are entirely dependent on others for help. This view can perpetuate ableism and fails to recognize the capabilities and autonomy of individuals with disabilities. Support work should focus on empowering these individuals rather than framing them solely as needing assistance. These misunderstandings can lead to a lack of appreciation for the important work done by special needs support professionals and can hinder the development of effective educational strategies. #DisabilityAwareness #Empowerment #InclusionMatters #Ableism #SpecialNeedsSupport- #DiversityAndInclusion

People with disabilities > People with special abilities There’s nothing special about my disability. Until unless I can start shooting laser beams from my eyes, I would prefer (and so would other folks with disabilities) you drop the ‘special’. There’s a binary contradiction when people refer to disabilities: Either we’re inspiring role models or we’re Incapacitated folks that need uplifting. This false dichotomy is very harmful- people with disabilities are allowed to fill the grey areas of life. None of our needs are ‘special’, they are merely needs of accessibility. Language is important. #wearebillionstrong #languageofdisability #disability #traumainformed Billion Strong

Invisible Disabilities: Don't Overlook What You Can't See Invisible disabilities are often unseen, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t real. Many individuals live with conditions that aren’t outwardly visible, and some may choose not to disclose them for fear of vulnerability or as a form of self-protection. It’s important not to dismiss or assume someone isn't disabled just because their condition isn’t immediately apparent. Respecting their experience and offering understanding can help create a more inclusive and compassionate environment for all. #InclusionMatters #DisabilityIsDiverse #InvisibleDisabilitiesAwareness #DisabilityInclusion

Here's a thought experiment for you, on #gaad replace the word #accessibility with the sentence "allowing access for people with disabilities", then see if you still think your choice is right. So for example "we don't want to limit creative design due to accessibility", would become "we don't want to limit creative design due to allowing access for people with disabilities". Or "we can tackle accessibility later, it's not a priority", becomes "we can tackle allowing access for disabled people later, it's not a priority".

✨ Embracing Accessibility: A Win-Win for Everyone ✨ It's time to rethink accessibility beyond just accommodating individuals with disabilities. Did you know that accessibility can actually benefit a much broader spectrum of people? Let's consider the humble curb cut: Initially designed to assist people using wheelchairs, curb cuts have evolved into a solution benefiting a diverse range of individuals. Parents pushing strollers, travelers with luggage, and shoppers with carts all find ease in accessing sidewalks thanks to curb cuts. Similarly, the evolution of texting serves as another example. Originally aimed at making communication easier for the Deaf community, texting has become the preferred mode of communication for many, transcending the boundaries of disability. 🦻 Fun fact: Deafness also led to the creation of the phone and the internet. When we shift our perspective on accessibility from merely ticking boxes for the disability community to embracing the principles of universal design, we can empower everyone, regardless of ability, to fully participate and thrive. #Accessibility #Inclusion #UniversalDesign #CurbCutEffect
