Nowadays, expectations from Software QA engineers are sky-high, while their compensation remains relatively low. Companies should recognize that QA engineers are specialized professionals and not simply developers with a different title. If a QA engineer possesses extensive coding knowledge, they might have considered a career as a developer. Conversely, if companies equate QA engineers with developers, then their compensation should be commensurate with that of developers. To successfully crack a QA interview today, candidates must possess a diverse skill set, including theoretical manual testing fundamentals, database querying, Java, Selenium automation, API automation,Cyprus, Playwright,Agile methodologies, version control systems, Jenkins CI, API testing using Postman, Performance Testing and more. This extensive skill set makes it challenging to compete with the relatively simpler requirements for frontend or backend developer roles. Even after a successful interview, candidates often face salary negotiations, where companies prioritize hiring individuals who can accept lower offers. This disheartening trend can undermine the efforts and skills of dedicated QA professionals. #QA #QualityAnalyst
Shahnawaz Hadi You're absolutely right QA engineers are increasingly expected to have a broad and deep skill set, from manual testing to coding and automation, yet their compensation often doesn’t reflect this. Companies need to recognize that QA professionals are specialized experts, not just "testers," and should be compensated fairly at a level similar to developers if their skills align with those of developers. The gap between skills required and pay offered is a disservice to the critical role QA plays in ensuring software quality.
QA engineers should be only involved in QA activities rather than entering into development activities. Companies are expecting that single person should do coding, unit testing and functional end to end testing... Many people who have experience only in manual testing, due to company expectations, people are jobless..
Shahnawaz Hadi you are absolutely right. I am facing a huge challenge for this issue. I have been unemployed officially for 7 months. Now I am struggling due to this reason. They require coding knowledge… in the name of QA, companies are mentioning that they want everything which is logically impossible.
Great advice Shahnawaz. I agree
Love this. I definitely agree
