I am unable to hire 4 good #powerbi developers, you know why? ⭐ Most of the candidates had given higher self ratings, when I asked to rate themselves on the scale of 1-5 about following skills. #dax, #powerquery, #visulization & #datamodelling Why candidates are failing because of two main reasons. Worked on simple dashboards. Worked only on data visualisation and dax. But the core of the becoming the pro in #powerbi is understanding the data and data model. Unless you do not understand the data and data model you can't be a great power bi developer. There is huge crowd out there who learn power bi via youtube(nothing wrong) and use either HR dashboard or online shoping dashboards with simple KPI. But, when it comes to realtime business dashboard it is hard to solve the problems with skills you acquired via online learning modes. Building skills and master the art of BI & Analytics required more in depth understanding of the data and business logics. #bi #analytics

🚀 How become a Power BI developer? I can categorize people who want to be Power BI developer to 2 groups: 1️⃣ Who that have IT background 2️⃣ Who that doesn't have IT background ❇️ Most of people in first category can have "Power BI developer" role, Since most of second category members are "Data Analyst" in specific field like finance, Marketing, etc. For both of these categories, there are some must have technical skills: ✔️ Data Modelling ✔️ DAX ✔️ T-SQL ✔️ Power Query ✔️ Visualization ✔️ Presentation ✔️ Fluent Language (common language in company) Most of the time, people in first category have additional skills like: 🤞 Additional ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS 🤞 Data Warehousing like Synapse 🤞 C# programming 🤞 Data Science and Machine Learning 🤞 AI 🟥 Note: Based on my investigation in Germany Market, The first group can also have Data Analytics role. In Germany Job Market, when companies need somebody that has ETL skills in additional to Data Analyst skills, They advertise this job as Data Analytics. 😉💰 Of course more skills, more salary! #DataAnalyst #DataScientist #DataAnalytics #PowerBIDeveloper #PowerBI #Visualization #ETL #DataModel #AI #MachineLearning

One of the main reasons BI is increasingly being seen as a graphic design discipline rather than a tool for extracting meaningful insights from data is the overemphasis on visualization. When I mentor analysts, I always stress that while data visualization is important, it should never be their primary focus. The true value of BI lies in future-proofing your queries, creating standardized semantic models, optimizing refresh speeds, and, most importantly, solving real business problems through actionable insights. These are the core responsibilities of a BI analyst.

I was curious why there were so many comments on the thesis you put - is it so much controversal what you wrote?! I don't think so. Well, your provocation worked :-) resulting in large number of answers. This reminds me of a simple task to solve that a recruiter once asked me, among others. I really like this simple test and used it many times in the future when I was evaluating an employee. It is a simple matter of calculating the average for an entire population when we have partial data in the form of statistics for subgroups of that population. Most people tried to calculate the average of averages because it was faster and easier :-) . What's more, even those who had been already employed as data analysts for two years did this mistake and ignored any my hints that there might be a serious error here. Tools and languages, such as #DAX, can be learned relatively quickly when you have strong rooots knowledge, and it is always surprising to me how recruiters require knowledge of a specific tool or for example database system. I think it is result of to many candidates, among whom it's easier to choose and employer want someone who start woork from first day - but - unfortunately will count average from averages :-).
