When things don’t go to plan… 💥💥 What do you do when the best laid plans go wrong? We have a choice to get up and try again, and keep trying until we succeed. Or We give up and don’t see the results we are aiming for. The choice is yours. Ps take note that cleaning a microwave after an egg explodes is not fun 😳😂 Lesson learned! … keep your eye on the ball (or the egg on this case!) 2024 grain harvest is done, done and done! One last header cab musings for this chook. Harvest is nothing more than team work and perseverance. So when we finished the last run yesterday, I took a moment to look around… There in the paddock watching was our truck drivers, chaser bin driver and family members. Completing harvest is a major milestone, and the fact that it is a sense of accomplishment for all our team members suggest we have the right culture. We have all our harvest crew coming back next year, which is probably the best Christmas gift I could have gotten. Getting the right people to work on farm is one of the biggest challenges we can face- it’s incredibly hard to the get the right people, who want to work. We have struggled with this very issue in the past. Here’s what we give team members: 🚜 Autonomy: we don’t micromanage, everyone is responsible for their area of control. 🚜 Debriefs: a cold beer and a debrief of the week builds communication and makes people feel heard. 🚜 Consideration: if it’s been a hard day, coffees or a treat gets delivered to the paddock. If there is hard, dusty job then my husband and I jump in first to do it. We don’t run a hierarchical workplace, we are all in it together, we care for each other and that builds team work. 🚜 Tone: how we react to mistakes sets the tone in the paddock. No one wants to be around someone yelling and screaming. Most mistakes can be undone, and so we approach mistakes with care, training and later make sure we laugh about all the mistakes we have made over the years. We don’t get everything right, but we do our best to be our best for our employees.
