"I think there’s a growing understanding that...access is everything and that you cannot just say, "Don’t eat ultra processed foods." Because if there is someone who is working 12 hours a day just to keep a roof over their head and food on the table, I’m not going to be the one who says, "You know what you should do in your 30 minutes of free time? Cook for yourself"... That person also needs their autonomy to do things that work for themselves. They [may not have] as much free time as I do... This is an equity issue, food is a justice issue... I was giving a speech... at South by Southwest... And someone said to me... "If you could either use money to feed kids or to teach kids about nutrition, which would you do?" Which is like, oh, my gosh, please, can we do both? But it’s feed kids. Because once they get [food] in their bodies... they can concentrate and function." (from Mary Beth Albright on the Well, Now podcast with Maya Feller MS, RD,CDN and Kavita Patel) I always love the this podcast, but this latest episode spoke to me on another level. They discuss the role of food in emotional well-being and touch on hot topics in food policy like front-of-package labeling and ultra-processed foods. I highly recommend! https://lnkd.in/g4UFPQGT

In this sweet episode of the Old School Food Freedom Podcast, host Chrissy Kirkman and guest Liesel Maddox, RDN, LD, tackle a topic that's close to their hearts: tearing down the lies of diet culture within the Church. As they dive into the intersection of faith and food, Liesel highlights the importance of aligning our understanding of food and nutrition with biblical principles and rejecting the harmful message of diet culture for the freedom of God's people. Knowing that our sanctification isn't tied to changing our bodies or pursuing weight loss but rooted in seeking God's truth and honoring Him with our bodies, we can reconcile our relationship with food and restore its place in our lives — where food is not only for survival, but an emotional, relational, and enjoyable part of God's creation. By lifting the veil on harmful diet culture lies that have infiltrated the Church, Chrissy and Liesel share valuable perspectives and tools you can use to help foster a safer, and more God-honoring approach to food and body within your beloved church community.
