What’s holding women back in European corporates? Our latest Three Barriers research shines a light on the persistent obstacles preventing women from advancing to leadership roles. The findings are eye-opening: organisational barriers are the most significant roadblocks, and they’re more pervasive than many realise. From structural biases to limited access to high-impact opportunities, these barriers not only hinder individual careers but also stall progress toward gender equity across entire industries. And added to this, our root cause analysis revealed that while the challenges women voice might appear similar across countries, the underlying reasons are often fundamentally different - meaning the solutions must be just as tailored and unique. Watch this quick clip to learn more. But it’s not all bad news. In our research paper, we go beyond the statistics to share practical, actionable strategies that organisations can implement to level the playing field. These solutions are designed to help businesses unlock the full potential of their workforce while building a culture where everyone can thrive. Are you ready to be part of the change? There are still myths out there that when women win, it’s at the expense of men. In fact, one former Prime Minister of Australia once unhelpfully said “We want to see women rise. But we don't want to see women rise only on the basis of others doing worse." 🤦🏼♀️ Catalyst has debunked the harmful notion that gender equity comes at the expense of men. The findings are clear: when women advance in the workplace, it benefits everyone. ICYMI: - Companies with more women in leadership roles financially outperform those with fewer women leaders. - Men in inclusive workplaces report higher job satisfaction, better health outcomes, and stronger work-life balance. - Gender diversity fosters innovation, collaborative problem-solving, and a broader range of perspectives. For those in the back, or are deliberately hard of hearing, the evidence is overwhelming – gender equity is not a zero-sum game. 📣 Leadership Call to Action: • Advocate for gender equity policies and practices in your organisation. • Sponsor high-potential women colleagues. • Speak up against discrimination. • Embrace inclusive leadership. 👩💼 Everyone understands the why but struggles with the how Women leaders in Asia are slowly rising through the ranks, though the road remains complex. There has been many discussions on this topic and this piece captured the nuances very well, link to full article below. My key takeaways: ➡️ Notable breakthroughs show progress for women in C suite and Board roles, though women prospects vary greatly from economy to economy. ➡️ Companies increasingly recognizing that diverse perspectives lead to better governance and more resilient organizations. ➡️ It is still challenging for companies to correct gender imbalances even when there is broad consensus that doing so is an existential imperative. #WomenInLeadership #LeadershipMatters #BoardDiversity #WomenOnBoards #DiversityandInclusion

Women, as leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators, play an irreplaceable and meaningful role in shaping our global business ecosystem. I firmly believe that women in business are a potent force in revolutionizing, not just the verticals they are part of, but also our world at large. Here are key factors that highlight the positive impacts that female leadership and participation in the business environment contribute towards: ▪️Diversity of Thought: Women bring to the table unique perspectives and experiences, thereby fostering innovative solutions and creativity in business models and strategies. ▪️Strong Empathy: Inherently, women tend to be more empathetic, nurturing a healthy working environment which is conducive to collaboration, teamwork and ultimately improved productivity. ▪️Financial Impact: Numerous studies have shown that companies with higher numbers of women in leadership roles consistently perform better financially. ▪️Social Consciousness: Women in business often champion sustainability and social responsibility, steering their industries towards impactful change that benefits community and global causes. While we cannot ignore the progress that has been achieved over the past few decades in promoting gender equality in the business sphere, it is equally important to acknowledge that there is still much ground to cover. The glass ceiling” is not entirely shattered, and equal opportunities for women, particularly in executive and managerial roles, remain an essential goal worth striving for. Changing this dynamic requires concerted efforts from governments, businesses, and civil societies around the globe. It involves: 🔹Promoting policies that create equal opportunities for all genders. 🔹Cultivating a culture that recognizes and rewards talent, regardless of gender. 🔹Fostering mentorships and networks that support the career advancement of women. In doing so, we will not only acknowledge the vast potential of women in business but also harness it for shared prosperity and sustainable development. To the trailblazing women across sectors who inspire us daily, I salute you. Your contribution in fostering growth, building resilience, and nurturing innovation paves the way for a more inclusive and prosperous world. Women in Business Help THE WORLD 🌍 - not just because it’s morally right or politically correct, but because it’s integral to our collective progress and prosperity. #WomenInBusiness #Leadership #GenderEquality #DiversityandInclusion

Breaking the glass ceiling is no easy feat, and women in South Africa face several challenges in their pursuit of executive roles. Cultural and societal expectations often dictate traditional gender roles, which can limit women's access to opportunities for career advancement. #WomenInLeadership #Leadership #genderequity #gestaldt #morethangivingadvice

It was only recently that I realised we are unlikely to reach gender parity within the current workforce structure—not even in the 80 years projected for CEO parity. I’m not sure if this is a controversial perspective or if I’m simply late to the realisation. I have always been an advocate for initiatives and would celebrate the small gains made from foundational legislation, policies, and social changes. But it was only this year, when progress seemed to regress, that I thought, “Is this really as good as it gets?” Why Formidable You is Important This mission is vital because traditional corporate systems are no longer serving women—or, in many cases, the organisations themselves. Leadership qualities often seen in women, such as empathy, holistic thinking, and inclusivity, are essential in today’s dynamic world. Yet, these qualities are frequently overlooked or undervalued in conventional settings. Formidable You offers a new path, one that values and amplifies these strengths, empowering women to break free from rigid expectations and truly thrive. This shift is crucial to building resilient, innovative, and inclusive organisations that serve a greater purpose, benefiting not only women but society as a whole. www.formidableyou.com Stay tuned, tomorrow why its hard #femaleleadership #gengerparity #genderequity #transformationalleadership #formidableyou #femaleledorganisations

Another in a long line of studies showing that diverse leadership outperforms. Globally, women held 26% of board seats as of 2023, with Bloomberg data showing that women on S&P boards is around 35%. A growing number of global stock exchanges are instituting requirements for board diversity at listed companies. According to research on share price returns from 2010 to 2023 by Bloomberg Intelligence, in developed markets the top 20% of companies for female board membership outperformed the bottom 20% by 2-5%. In emerging markets, the top 20% were 2-6% less volatile than the bottom 20%. Several major global exchanges have board diversity listing requirements in place in continued efforts toward board gender parity, which Bloomberg forecasts by 2030. As we have cited many times, women’s representation in the C-suite badly lags progress at the board level, a dynamic that also merits sustained stakeholder pressure. Bloomberg cites continued diversity pressure on U.S. companies despite political headwinds. The business case for diversity has been made clear and continues to be demonstrated. A lack of leadership diversity means investors are missing out. We have just published the 16th edition of our quarterly analysis of women in the global workforce and gender lens investing (bit.ly/GLIQ). This edition includes an update of our compilation of stats on women in global leadership, where progress is hard-fought and precarious.
