This is a great result for the National Crime Agency (NCA), that have successfully disrupted a DDoS-for-hire marketplace, in collaboration with Police Service of Northern Ireland. We have observed DDoS attacks becoming more frequent and more impactful with the availability of these services on criminal marketplaces. However, this is a huge win and yet another example of the effectiveness of international law enforcement in the cyber space. CSA’s Singapore Cyber Emergency Response Team (SingCERT) has received several reports of scammers impersonating SingCERT officers. The scammers attempted to scare members of the public by claiming that their mobile numbers were used for illegal activities overseas. Members of the public are advised to not follow any of the instructions given by the caller or provide any information. We urge you to report scam calls or requests to the police. The latest Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) report on internet crime shows an alarming increase in cyber crime complaints and losses across the US. Within 4 years, total losses to cybercriminals has risen from $3.5bn to $12.5bn! And these are conservative numbers as a high percentage of cybercrime goes unreported. This is the second arrest of a Scattered Spider member. Scattered Spider is a financially motivated threat group known for social engineering attacks. They have also evolved their tactics to focus on #ransomware and data theft extortion. The group has been observed using fear-mongering tactics to gain access to victim credentials. The group has targeted SaaS applications to steal sensitive data. Health-ISAC Members are advised to maintain good security practices, including applying the #MFA across business accounts and continuously monitoring systems for suspicious activity to mitigate the risk of #cyberattacks.

Here’s how it typically works: scammers contact victims, claiming to be from a government agency, often using official-sounding language and stolen personal information to appear legitimate. They then threaten arrest or legal action unless an immediate payment is made to "settle" the charges. In panic, victims sometimes comply without realizing they are being scammed. To protect yourself, remember that law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone or ask for sensitive details through unsecured channels.
