Carl van der Riet is the epitome of mature leadership – it's truly case study material – of course Carl, being the epitome of humble leadership that he is, will be embarrassed by my gushing kudos. In the work that I do as an executive search professional and as an executive coach and as a career strategy professional, there are some that stand out, some ( a few) that are just a clear cut above the rest – Carl van der Riet is one such executive.

Today it was announced that I'll be stepping in as interim CEO of Super Coffee. 9 years ago when I started Super Coffee in my freshman dorm room, it was clear I wasn't ready for the job. I was 18 years old, inexperienced and rough around the edges. But I cared deeply about our mission and fell in love with everything about the company and the impact we wanted to make. Jimmy DeCicco was the better leader and more skilled worker (he still is). He led us boldly for 6 incredible years of hard-charging, underdog fighting as we propelled from dorm room blender to Sharktank, Forbes 30under30, BevNET.com, Inc. Brand of the Year and so many more amazing accomplishments that I was fortunate enough to be apart of. Jake DeCicco was always there pushing us to aim bigger, move faster and do more. We also had the best team in the world around us (and still do). Though it was hard work, I couldn't have been more lucky. When our business fundamentally changed and capital markets shifted post pandemic, it was clear we were in a different fight. Tyler Ricks was already a trusted mentor, investor, friend and in some ways, family. Tyler stepped up as President and then CEO in 2022 when we were struggling most. He didn't have to, but like a knight in shining armor, he did it with a smile. Our "growth at all costs" model was broken and like only Tyler could, he led the charge to a more sustainable state with a new level of rigor, sophistication, compassion and humility. In almost all ways, he showed us the path of how to professionally manage a dynamic CPG company. It was like an MBA on steroids. After an incredible 2+ years of leading this great brand, Tyler has decided to move on from his full time role as CEO and back into an advisory role. Tyler will remain extremely close to the business and I'll continue to leverage every ounce of support he has to offer. I know I can't do it without him. To all of our employees, customers, partners, investors, board members and key stakeholders, I could not be more grateful for you or more ready for this next chapter. I promise to give it my absolute all for everyone whose ever believed in our mission of mass producing positive energy. Though its been a great journey, we are still just getting started and our best is certainly yet to come.
