“In the face of complex problems and strategic decisions, executives often choose the wrong problem to solve. They focus on symptoms instead of causes, base their thinking on false assumptions and artificial constraints, and overlook key stakeholders. The answer, we have found, is to change the way the problem is defined. By doing so, business leaders can significantly expand their universe of alternatives and identify radically better solutions.” — Arnaud Chevallier, Albrecht Enders, and Jean-Louis Barsoux in the linked article #storytelling #leadership #problemsolving #businessstrategy #creativesolutions #creativethinking

Inspiring Innovation: Leadership in Creative Environments. In today's fast-paced and ever-changing world, innovation is crucial for businesses to remain competitive and relevant. And while creativity and innovative ideas may seem to come from individual minds, it's actually a company's leadership and culture that fosters an enabling environment for innovation to thrive. Leadership in creative environments is not about micromanaging or controlling every aspect of the creative process. Rather, it's about providing guidance, support, and resources for people to explore and experiment with their ideas. This type of leadership encourages risk-taking and embraces failure as a learning opportunity. In addition, leaders in creative environments must also be open-minded and willing to listen to different perspectives and ideas. This allows a wide range of thoughts and opinions to be considered, leading to more innovative and comprehensive solutions. Leaders should also actively seek out new and emerging trends, technologies, and ideas, and encourage their team to do the same. Another important aspect of leadership in creative environments is fostering a culture of collaboration. When people are encouraged to share their ideas and work together, the potential for innovation increases exponentially. Collaboration allows a combination of different skills, experiences, and perspectives to come together and create something truly unique and innovative. But perhaps the most crucial aspect of inspiring innovation in creative environments is creating a safe space for people to express their ideas and their ideas without fear of judgment or criticism. This allows for a free flow of ideas and promotes a culture of learning and growth. #management #leadership #ceo #marketing #humanresources #director

When it comes to nurturing innovation within your team, here’s what I’ve found from working with scores of superior leaders: Less is more. Here’s what I mean. The common knee-jerk reaction for some leaders and businesses is to throw money at problems, hoping for a groundbreaking solution. Instead, I always advise my clients—the ones who are savvy enough to seek out innovative transformations—to give their teams just shy of enough. Not QUITE enough money, not QUITE enough time. Sound stressful? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely. See, here’s what happens: when your team is swimming in resources and time, they’re likely to just latch onto the first, most obvious solution. It’s human nature—why did deeper when you don’t have to? On the flip side, when resources are a bit tight, it’s like a wake-up call to creativity. Your team is pushed to think differently, to dig deeper, to be more resourceful. They’re forced to look at the problem from angles they wouldn’t have considered otherwise. And that’s where innovation thrives—in the trenches of limitations and constraints. (It’s true!) Remember, in the world of innovation, sometimes the best way to add is to subtract. Does this resonate with you? Have you had a relevant experience? If so, please share it in the comments. ------------------------ My innovation keynotes and team consulting are backed by 15 years' experience leading a highly-innovative team under ridiculous pressure. In business, it is often believed that people are "naturally" one thing or another: strategic or operational. This is a quality that makes for an established belief in the philosophy of operational strategy. However, what is this philosophy, and who embodies it? Are great strategists born, or are they made? Is this something you can practice? And if so, how? Personally, I believe that strategists are made and not born and that anyone can practice this art. The following steps can be used to develop and refine your strategic thinking skills: 1. Spot the gaps: Understand where you are now, in terms of performance, and where you'd like to be; think about what it would take to create that future. 2. Serve the problems: When future performance is at risk, ask yourself what decisions you need to make right now to ensure you're on a better strategic path tomorrow. 3. Learn the outcomes: Analyse your decisions and their effects; understand the processes that led to both good and bad results. 4. Stay intellectually hungry: Read industry-related materials, scavenge for insights, and hold your peers accountable. 5. Get comfortable with constructive feedback: Talk with intellectually diverse groups about your strategy until you have no strategy left to talk about. Do not delay your "becoming strategic" until later in your career. Start applying strategic thinking to your current role now, regardless of its level. Every decision you make, from the prioritisation of daily tasks to the planning of long-term projects, is an opportunity to practice strategy. And the business leaders who enjoy the most success usually have years of strategic practice behind them by the time they reach the summit. So go ahead and start. Your strategic muscles will grow stronger over time. #StrategicThinking #CareerDevelopment #ContinuousImprovement #LeadershipSkills -- Follow me for more content and insights on innovation and startup strategy.

Feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to be a leader in 2024? McKinsey just dropped their eight CEO priorities for the year. Between fostering innovation, building a killer culture, and addressing the emotional intelligence black hole plaguing some leaders (yikes!), it's enough to make even the most seasoned CEO break a sweat. Here's the thing. You don't have to become a superhuman to lead your company to outsized growth. We can ditch the outdated management styles and embrace fresh approaches that get results (and keep you from burning out). Here are 3 insanely effective leadership strategies to dominate 2024: 1. Become a Vulnerability Ninja - McKinsey calls out low emotional intelligence as a major hurdle. Forget the stoic CEO stereotype. Show your team you're human by admitting mistakes and celebrating wins together. Transparency builds trust, and trust fuels results. 2. Embrace the Power of "No" - You can't be everything to everyone, especially in today's complex landscape. Learn to say "no" to shiny objects that distract from your core mission. Focus on what truly matters, and watch your team's laser focus pay off. 3. Lead by Questioning, Not Dictating - Don't micromanage. Empower your team by asking thought-provoking questions that ignite their creativity. Innovation thrives in an environment where diverse perspectives are encouraged. Leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating an environment where your team can find them together. What would you add? Found this useful? Repost ♻️ to help your network.
