Leaders from city and county government, education, philanthropy, social services, and community are launching a new partnership - The Birmingham-Jefferson County Justice Governance Partnership - to decrease violence and increase health and opportunity in Jefferson County.  PARCA is serving as the partnership's Local Justice Intermediary, a role that includes coordinating data collection across agencies and collaborating to provide research and analysis that supports the work of the Partnership. Read more about the BJC-JGP here: https://lnkd.in/gu_EdyV3

I'm excited to share our new article in Punishment & Society, "Abolition Compromised: How State-Nonprofit Funding Dynamics Undermine Anti-Carceral Reform," co-authored with Bethany Murray and Leah Jacobs. In this piece, we explore how funding relationships between the state and nonprofits shape the implementation of abolitionist strategies, with implications for anti-carceral reform efforts. We argue for greater attention to the organizational, administrative, and implementation aspects of abolition, bridging abolitionist and organizational theory. Abstract below! The grants reaffirm the Fund’s commitment to supporting the leadership and influence of directly impacted communities on the decisions and policies that ensure safe, affordable, and stable housing for everyone. The Fund is led by a unique co-governance structure made up of both community leaders and funders. Since its inception, the Fund for an Inclusive California has prioritized accountability to its community partners through shared decision making and developing funding strategies in consultation with those partners to nurture, strengthen, and expand local and regional power across the state.
