Wow - this job posting was really an eye opener. In the interests of openness and with the aim to help potential job seekers, I wanted to do a short analysis/post that gives useful feedback for those in the job market. This is heavily caveated with the fact I know it's a super tough job market/economy in Nigeria at the moment and sometimes people have just gotta shoot their shot.... But sadly, Wimbart is not the kind of agency where taking a punt on randoms happens. We're extremely intentional about the talent we onboard and subsequently nurture. I have also tried to reply to every single application so far - even if it's a friendly rejection email. For those long listed... they've been informed and given an update on next steps and updates. 📌 We received 150+ applications in approx 24 hours 📌 At present, less than 10% of applicants have made it onto the long list 📌 Approx 80% of applications were from people who had never worked in a PR agency EVER 📌 There's sadly a real lack of understanding of what PR is and why it is different to digital marketing/marketing/social media manager - creating Canva ads and doing paid marketing on Facebook for a consumer brand is not going to be helpful to a B2B PR agency that only does earned media 📌 Approx 60% of applicants very clearly used ChatGPT to draft the intro email, making a lot of the applications inauthentic / hard to differentiate on covering email/letter alone 📌 10% of applications were from people who don't live in Lagos [when we specified in-person/Lagos was important] 📌 40% of applicants didn't read the JD properly or follow the instructions re how to apply - some went straight to my LinkedIn DMs, others used incorrect email titles, others just randomly forwarded a CV on its own My advice for job seekers... get the basics right from the start, pay attention to small details, don't rely too heavily on ChatGPT, and be AUTHENTIC. Those who've made the long list did this, and I'm excited to be reviewing their CVs and experience again over the next couple of days. Why is it important to follow this?
