For two days we’ve had a High Level delegation from India visiting us led by the Health Secretary, Shri Apurva Chandra as well as the Directors of NCDC, NHA, CDSCO FDA India MoHFW and AIIMS Jodhpur. The 13th Joint Working Group under our MoU showed great commitment and future extended collaboration was discussed in several fields. The delegation had meetings with State Secretaries Miriam Söderström and Petra Noreback. Other highlights were visits to Läkemedelsverket, ReAct, Uppsala Monitoring Centre, Karolinska Institutet, Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset and Elekta. With great cooperation from Ambassador Tanmaya Lal, Swecare and Business Sweden. There are ample opportunities for even deeper cooperation. Regeringskansliet, Socialdepartementet

When I think about our family business, I’m amazed by how far we’ve come. Especially considering that we never imagined running a global company. It all began with my father, who continued the legacy of Bharat Salt right here in Kolkata, supplying local industries. It was a modest operation back then, but as time passed we realized that to stay competitive, our business has to find ways to evolve. That realization led to Anzen Exports Pvt. Ltd. when we saw an opportunity to enter the international market exporting pharma ingredients. The idea of exporting was foreign to us. But then we learned about an event called CPHI WW, the largest pharmaceutical trade show in the world, and decided to participate in it. That event opened our eyes to the immense possibilities of global trade. We connected with international partners, learned about regulatory standards, and saw firsthand what it takes to operate on a global scale. We then moved into international trade and it felt like starting all over again. The processes, regulations, and standards required for global trade were vastly different from what we were familiar with and we had a lot to unlearn. The barriers we faced weren’t just external but internal as well. We had to change the “family business” mindset, convince stakeholders, and ensure that we were all aligned with the new direction. There were times when the roadblocks seemed too much to bear. But looking back, I can proudly say that every challenge was worth it. The business that began as a small local supplier has now grown into a global entity and this is that time of the year when we look forward to attending the CPHI WW event again. So, to anyone just starting a business or even those in established industries, don’t fear change.

My heartfelt thanks to the Team DIA and other organisers for this invaluable opportunity. Engaging with esteemed panelists such as Mr. Omprakash Sadhwani, Dr. G.N. Singh, Mr. Rajiv Nath, Mr. Pavan Choudhary, and Dr. Bhawana Awasthy was truly enlightening. Our discussions spanned a wide range of topics, including: • Advancements in India's medical device industry • Challenges faced by the Indian industry in manufacturing, clinical studies, and complaint management. • Medical device regulations and the practical challenges faced by the industry • Multinational medical device companies' perspectives on operations in India • Bridging the gap between education and training to meet industry needs. • Global regulatory gaps concerning combination products. • The future and impact of technology in India's medical device industry. • Promoting research in India through technical advancements and resources. • Differentiating talent through academia amidst the rise of information technology and learning platforms. • Challenges faced by state regulators in overseeing commonly used devices, cosmetics, and drugs. These discussions provided profound insights into the current landscape and future directions of our industry.
