Taking transition advice from an active-duty service member is the equivalent of letting the Lieutenant lead land navigation. You just shouldn't do it! There are way too many great veterans willing to provide you guidance on your military transition. Ask those who have transitioned for transition advice. It only makes sense. If you don't know where to start, try Veterati. This is free mentorship calls with subject matter experts in all kinds of fields. Friends don't let LT's lead land navigation. Sorry LT's! 🤷♂️ #vetsos #veteran #veterans #veteranshelpingveterans #veterantransition #military #militaryspouse #militaryspouses #militarytransition #transitioningmilitary #transitioningservicemembers #transitioningveterans
What if the LT was prior service 🤔 Shawn Welsh, RBLP-T, ABCP. I wasn't all that great with land nav and I agree with finding someone on @Veterati that matches the field you want to go into. I talked to some great mentors during my transition to let me know if I still want to be in that field, and get resources and other connections to network with.
Veterati.com is a fantastic place to conduct informational interviews and get advice from those who have been through the transition process already. Those still on active-duty mean well, but just do not know what it really takes to transition well.
In the 17 years I spent in the financial services industry I witnessed SO many folks who, prior to meeting with me, had gotten their money 'education' and advice from people they worked with or equally clueless relatives. We must choose our advisors wisely.
Speaking as the daughter of a career enlisted Navy Dad...YEAH. Well said Shawn Welsh, RBLP-T, ABCP!
I love the fact that Veterati offers free mentorship calls. This is a fantastic offering.
Thanks for highlighting the importance of seeking guidance from those with firsthand experience.Shawn Welsh, RBLP-T, ABCP
Love this
Getting advice from people that have been through the process before is certainly a great place to start Shawn Welsh, RBLP-T, ABCP

1yThe best advice I ever got on reading maps was "Go right up and ask her" from a sergeant who was a Jr. ROTC teacher at my high school, Shawn Welsh, RBLP-T, ABCP How this applies to the transition is, "Go right up" and ask a transitioned veteran the best way to transition.
