She Breaks the Law are thrilled to be media partners for The Say Gap in London again this year. This year the event will span two days. Day 1 will look at how we create an environment in which we can support truly diverse teams and encourage diversity of thought. DE&I initiatives have never faced greater challenges, so we will be facilitating largely Chatham House conversations around how corporates and private practice teams can understand one another’s challenges and come back with practical solutions. Day 2 will see the return of the brilliant Sarah Lloyd Hughes from Ginger Communications who will be teaching women how to tell stories for maximum business impact. Cosmonauts have given lawbreakers a 10% discount if they would like to attend. If you could like to get the code for this, head on over to the community page for details on this! Thanks to Caroline Hill and Legal IT Insider for driving this. Check out the website on https://lnkd.in/evMuy8ng #DEI #TheSayGap #WomenInLaw

On 30th October, we're telling everyone how we did it. You read that right. We're pulling back the curtain and showing exactly what Value Match, without a human rights team or any budget, used to create & execute a strategy recognised by Unseen UK for setting new best practice standards, We're going to be very honest about what has worked really well, what hasn't been as effective, and what we would recommend small businesses should focus on for impact while not breaking the bank or overstretching staff. We will be joined by my friend Laura Lindemann, a Business Engagement Manager from Unseen UK, who will share modern slavery insights and advice from the NGO perspective too. I don't know how to make this any clearer. We are literally sharing methodologies, telling you how to do it too, and what things to focus on. This will be very applicable and all advice comes from us actually having done it ourselves and tested it. Next week Wednesday, I will be presenting with Laura Lindemann from Unseen UK to talk about how small businesses can start their human rights strategy, and will be providing free tools and tricks for getting started. As legislation begins mandating mandatory due diligence from larger firms, small businesses supplying to them will need to have their own systems in place to mitigate modern slavery. Failing to do so will mean losing lots of business. This is even more real in the UK public sector, where modern slavery management could make up 10% of your overall bid score for a tender. This can't be ignored. Join for a highly informative and applicable session, where we share about best practice tips and tactics from experience, not just from a book or theory: https://lnkd.in/esmnQuRX #humanrights #bizhumanrights #modernslavery #humantrafficking #MSHT #duediligence #supplychains #smallbusinesses #sustainability #esg #socialcompliance

Creating connections, seeking the promotion, asking for help … they all start with you taking the simplest of actions. You cringe at the men working beside you for audaciously asking whatever comes to mind. But, don’t they get what they need? The answer is always “no” if you don’t ask. A simple step I take everyday is to purposefully and intentionally engage and connect with women in law, and not be afraid to ask “hey, you seem really cool. Do you want to grab coffee (virtually or in person)?” That is where this community comes from. Building authentic connections that fuel your soul and your career. What is a simple step can you take toward your yes? If you don’t know, DM me. We can brainstorm together. Or better yet, attend the Powerhouse Lawyers Retreat September 27-30th where my community can help you find set your goals on fire 🔥 #PowerhouseLawyers #WomenInLaw #WomenLawyers #NetworkingTips #LegalCommunity #WomensRetreats #TX #AustinTX

Businesses that fail to manage their modern slavery risks could be losing more than 10% of their score on public tenders. Given that public sector tenders give a mandatory weight of 10% to social value, which includes modern slavery prevention in supply chains and operations, businesses that aren't taking steps to mitigate modern slavery are throwing away their ability to compete for these tenders. If you're a small business, this is particularly challenging. Thankfully, it doesn't have to be. There are impactful and creative ways to show your commitment to preventing modern slavery as a small business, without breaking the bank and without overburdening your staff. At next Wednesday's (Oct 30) webinar, we will be showing you exactly how to do that, based on our own experience here at Value Match. There will be many free tools given on that day to get your human rights strategy started. Register to join us to find out more. https://lnkd.in/esmnQuRX #humanrights #esg #modernslavery #humantrafficking #msht #socialcompliance #socialvalue #sustainability #bizhumanrights #webinar #lunchandlearn

I have a short list of lawyers who are so good that I would hire them myself if I got into a pickle. My Fox Rothschild partner Deana Labriola is on that list. Deana has such good business sense, which is a rarity in the legal field. Luckily, Deana's doling out some wisdom about pre-transaction tax and estate planning strategies later this month at an Association for Corporate Growth Women's Forum. Looks like you can register by following the link below.

Today, we celebrate Dame Stephanie Shirley. She encapsulates the spirit of women supporting each other in professional arenas. 🌟 Why it’s important to embrace the power of connection! 🌟 In a profession as demanding and intricate as the legal profession, the journey for women can be uniquely challenging. This is why being part of a professional networking and support group for women in law is not just beneficial; it’s essential. Such groups offer a sanctuary of empowerment, where shared experiences forge unwavering support. They are a crucible for innovation, support and will illuminate the path to overcoming barriers. In these spaces, wisdom is shared, victories are celebrated, and the complexities of balancing personal and professional life are acknowledged and addressed. Moreover, these networks open doors to opportunities that might otherwise remain closed, providing a platform for visibility and recognition within the competitive legal landscape of the UK. They offer a chance to learn from the pioneers who have carved their paths in the legal realm, to be inspired by their resilience, and to aspire to create an even more inclusive and equitable future for all. Let’s champion the cause and uplift each other. Because when one woman in law succeeds, it paves the way for others, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and change. FUN FACT: Dame Stephanie wrote in her memoir: “I changed my name from Stephanie to Steve in my business development letters… so as to get through the door and be shaking hands before anyone realised that ‘he’ was a ‘she’.” 👏 #WomenInLaw #Empowerment #ProfessionalNetworking #SupportGroups #LegalCommunity #UKlaw

It is great to see this in Forbes! We need all economic growth and private sector leaders, officers, managers, specialists, and analysts in foundations and development agencies - multilaterals, bilaterals, and development finance institutions - to use this report when they design, implement, and monitor their economic growth and finance programs! This is especially important when providing technical assistance to governments, regulators, and banks. "Below are 10 strategic actions that can make a difference: Align financial investments with gender equality commitments by directing funding and resources toward initiatives that support gender equality in the workplace. Undertake a comprehensive analysis of gender pay disparities within your organization to identify and address wage gaps effectively. Support women entrepreneurs by providing resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help them thrive. This includes prioritizing women-owned businesses in procurement opportunities. Encourage work-life balance through flexible working hours, telecommuting options, and part-time work opportunities. Such flexible arrangements are especially beneficial for women who balance work and childcare responsibilities. Highlight and celebrate the achievements of women in your company. This could be through awards, recognition programs, and publicizing these achievements in internal and external media. Create programs to support women who are interested in re-entering the workforce after taking a career break. These programs can include skills refresher courses and flexible working schedules to make the transition easier. Introduce board quotas to increase female representation in leadership positions, promoting diversity at the decision-making level. Also create leadership development and mentoring programs designed to elevate women into senior leadership roles within the organization. Support governmental efforts by providing childcare solutions in the workplace. Implement zero-tolerance policies against sexual harassment, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees. This includes setting up robust mechanisms for reporting, supporting victims, and penalizing offenders. Ensure the safety of women employees by providing safe transportation options, especially for those who work late." 👓☕📖 Weekend Reading: For the first time, our 2024 #WomenBizLaw report measures the implementation of laws beyond the books. We find that, in the absence of supportive frameworks, even the most progressive laws remain empty promises.
