(the P stands for petroleum) Since yesterday, it’s Moeve. 1️⃣ They plan to have most of their profits come from sustainable activities by 2030. 2️⃣ They’re investing 8bn+ euros in hydrogen, biofuels and electric mobility. 3️⃣ And they divested 70% of their oil production assets vs 2022. 🌱 Oil Majors Accelerate Investment in Biofuels with 43 Projects by 2030 🌱 According to Rystad, major oil and gas companies are ramping up investments in biofuels, particularly sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with 43 new projects expected by 2030. Industry leaders like ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, TotalEnergies, and Eni are poised to increase production capacity by 286,000 barrels per day (bpd), contributing to the transition towards greener energy sources. SAF, derived from waste and residues such as used cooking oil or organic crops, offers a promising solution for reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry, which accounts for nearly 2% of global energy-related CO2 emissions. While SAF emits the same carbon dioxide as traditional kerosene when burned, it’s considered less polluting due to its renewable production process. BP leads the way with a combined production capacity of 130,000 bpd, supported by strategic acquisitions like its purchase of Bunge Bioenergia.
