The team at Cre8tive Hotels & Lifestyle, led by Andrew Taylor and Dale Lawrence, generously took time out of their day to provide an insightful talk to our RMIT University design interns at NUMI Hospitality. We firmly believe in viewing design from multiple perspectives: that of the clients, operators, and developers. By understanding and navigating the intricacies from the initial concept to its handover, we continually ask ourselves: 'How can we create more impactful and client-centered solutions?' 'How can we design a hotel that harmoniously accommodates diverse lifestyles and communities while maximising value for all stakeholders?' And equally important, 'how do we uphold international luxury standards while managing the challenges of high labour costs in countries like Australia?’' These are significant questions that resonate deeply and serve as valuable reminders for all young designers entering the hotel industry. As we explore design possibilities both in Australia and globally, we must push our boundaries. Our awareness should extend beyond guests and staff to even include the delivery personnel who bring fresh linen or the fresh produce that fills the kitchen. Understanding capacity, circulation, and flow throughout the hotel lifecycle is akin to setting a delicate chain of dominoes—when done right, the chain reaction unfolds as expected; when misaligned, it can easily affect the entire system. Cre8tive spoke about hotels where every decision matters down to the knives and forks and the success of a project is based on the belief of the collective team bringing the hotel to life from the owner to consultants, hotel operator, builder, architectural and design team.
