Big news for renewable energy! 🌙 Researchers at the University of New South Wales have developed a breakthrough device that generates electricity at night! 🤯 The technology captures the Earth's infrared radiation and converts it into power using a special semiconductor. According to T&D World, the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (ISTO), an international federation of groups and consortia dedicated to the advancement of standardized technologies for the benefit of industry, announced the formation of the Universal Interoperability for Grid-Forming Inverters (UNIFI) Consortium. UNIFI aims to facilitate the transition of electric power grids around the world to accommodate grid-forming technology across all power levels. The UNIFI team brings together researchers, industry stakeholders, utilities, and system operators to collaboratively pursue advances in a broad range of GFM technologies, led by DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), The University of Texas – Austin, and EPRI. $3.8 Million U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant fuels advancements in #CSP Energy Storage A team led by Associate Professor Like Li from University of Central Florida’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is developing an innovative thermochemical energy storage (TCES) system to enhance solar energy storage capabilities. Funded by a $3.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, the project utilizes #Concentrated #Solar-#Thermal power and other renewable sources like wind to store large amounts of high-temperature energy economically. The system has the potential to support efficient power cycles and industrial processes. GTI Energy has secured another $2.28M in U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funding to advance energy efficiency technology in decarbonizing the industrial sector. Together with partners Bloom Engineering Company and PRE-heat, Inc we are developing a high-temperature radiative exchanger with secondary emitters (RESE) that preheats combustion air using exhaust gases. This technology will cut costs, reduce emissions, and improve durability for high-temperature processes across industries. This award builds on GTI Energy’s existing efforts to leverage federal funding and strong collaboration to accelerate the development and deployment of industrial decarbonization technologies.
