🚫 Stop Following Bad Career Advice: Here’s What You Really Need to Thrive 🚫 Let’s be honest—those old career tips won’t cut it anymore. If you’re serious about maximizing your growth and carving out a path that’s uniquely yours, it’s time to get real about what works. Here’s the honest truth: 1️⃣ Build Your Dream Team 🧑🤝🧑 Growth isn’t a solo mission. You need people who complement your strengths and fill in the gaps. Collaborative, team-based work is where the magic happens. Surround yourself with people who push you to new heights, who bring skills you lack, and who you trust to make big things happen. 2️⃣ Tap Into Your Shadow Self 🌑 The parts of you that you ignore or suppress? They hold powerful insights. Self-awareness isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the key to unlocking your potential. Engage in the tough work of facing your shadow self, and watch how your personal and professional growth takes off. No pain, no gain is more than a cliché—it’s the reality of growth. 💪 3️⃣ Reprogram Your Mind 🧠 You know those emotional triggers that keep holding you back? It’s time to confront them. Reprogram your brain to erase those outdated mental “viruses” that no longer serve you. Replace them with thought patterns that fuel your present and future success. Don’t let yesterday’s fears steal tomorrow’s opportunities. 🚀 4️⃣ Find Your Cultural Fit 🌍 Your job is more than just a paycheck—it’s where you spend a huge chunk of your life. Thriving at work requires finding a culture that aligns with your values and beliefs. Surround yourself with people who get you, share your vision, and behave in ways that resonate with you. Being in a toxic environment? It’s a fast track to burnout. Get out and find where you truly fit, where you can be your authentic self. Bottom line? Don’t just “play it safe” or stick with outdated career myths. Build the right team around you, dig deep into your self-awareness, reprogram your thinking, and find the culture where you can truly shine. This is how you stop surviving and start thriving. 🌟 #CareerSuccess #SelfAwareness #Teamwork #ShadowSelf #GrowthMindset #EmotionalIntelligence #CulturalFit #LeadershipDevelopment #ThriveNotSurvive #NoPainNoGain #Leadership

Ever felt like you're swimming in the same professional pond for longer than you'd like? Welcome to the mid-career blues. Let's ditch the drama and dive into some realistic and practical reasons why you might be feeling a bit stuck in your career canoe. 1. Skill Development: Updating for Relevance 💻📚: In a world that's evolving faster than your inbox on Monday morning, keeping your skills up-to-date is more survival than luxury. Consider what skills are in demand in your industry and invest in relevant training. It's not about chasing every trend but staying pertinent to the changing needs of your field. 2. Comfort Zone: The Silent Trap🛌😴 : Comfort zones are like cozy blankets—they're warm until you realize you're still in bed at noon. Challenge yourself. Seek out new projects or responsibilities that push your boundaries. Growth often lurks outside the comfort zone, so pack your bags and venture into the unknown once in a while. 3. Networking for Mutual Benefit🤝🧑🤝🧑 : Networking isn't about collecting business cards or adding LinkedIn connections like Pokémon. It's about building genuine relationships that can be mutually beneficial. Attend industry events, engage in online discussions, and offer your expertise. You never know when that connection might turn into an opportunity. 4. Clarify Career Goals: A GPS for Success🎯🎯 : If you're feeling adrift, it's time to set sail with clear career goals. What do you want to achieve? Where do you see yourself in the next few years? Define your professional journey, and it becomes easier to navigate. It's not a rigid plan but a guiding compass. 5. Advocate for Your Achievements: Visibility Matters📸📷 : Humility is admirable, but if you're too quiet about your achievements, they might get lost in the office hum. Share your successes, big and small. Update your superiors on your accomplishments, and don't shy away from discussing your career aspirations. It's not about bragging; it's about ensuring your contributions are recognized. Remember, career stagnancy is more common than you think, and addressing it requires a blend of self-awareness and action. Embrace change, stay relevant, and paddle your career canoe towards new horizons. It's not about abandoning ship but navigating the waters with purpose. ⚓🌟 Want more information? The trend is clear: more and more people are switching, evolving and strategizing their careers in 2024. No longer in the backseat letting the employer decide, they have intentionally moved to the driver's seat on their career journey. Changes in the job market, shifts in technology, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have all contributed to this growing trend. Many workers are re-evaluating their careers, and the rise of remote work capabilities has made it easier for workers to explore new paths. But that doesn’t mean switching careers is easy. It’s a big decision that requires careful consideration. Finding career clarity is a journey, not a destination. Being intentional about your values and goals can help you gain clarity on what you want from your career. --- Job searching can be a stressful process – emotionally, mentally, and financially. Whether or not you’re currently searching, putting together a self-care plan today will prepare you for your career journey ahead, especially if you ever find yourself in between jobs. Being the strongest, healthiest version of yourself will strengthen your mindset and build your sense of resiliency – important during the good times, but essential in the tough times. Set aside some time once a month: 🔹 Review your self-care goals 🔹 Ensure your personal savings and investments are in order 🔹 Schedule that general check-up you’ve been putting off 🔹 Consider regular personal therapy or counselling Your self-care plan should factor in any regular breaks, quiet moments, or meditation – anything that helps you keep your mind uncluttered and less susceptible to overwhelm. Build in Microbreaks that have you away from your regular workspace, outside or in another room. Give yourself ten minutes to change gears, celebrate the application submitted or the interview preparation homework. You are your cheerleader so treat yourself well. Prioritizing your needs can boost your confidence, help you feel more empowered, and prepare you to take on new challenges in the job search process. ---- Are you feeling overwhelmed and unsure what your next steps could be? 7 Pieces of Worst Career Advice
3 TEDx Talks | Bestselling Author | Entrepreneur | Columnist | I help founders and leaders 10x their impact | #1 Creator in Workplace Wellbeing, Follow for No-nonsense insights on career & leadership
7 Pieces of Worst Career Advice (and the Smarter Moves to Make) 1. Follow Your Passion, No Matter What ❌ Why it's worst: Passion alone doesn't guarantee financial stability or job satisfaction. It can lead to chasing hobbies instead of practical career paths. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Combine passion with skills, market demand, and practicality to create a sustainable path. 2. Stick to One Job for Life ❌ Why it's worst: The traditional notion of staying in one job forever is unrealistic in today’s dynamic market. It limits opportunities and growth. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Embrace learning, adaptability, and career moves as opportunities to grow and explore new experiences. 3. Networking is All About Being Manipulative ❌ Why it's worst: Manipulation damages trust and builds shallow relationships, reducing the authenticity of your network. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Build genuine, mutually beneficial relationships that focus on helping others and collaboration. 4. Work Hard, and Success Will Follow ❌ Why it's worst: Hard work is essential but doesn't always lead to success without strategy, networking, or the right opportunities. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Work smart by combining effort with intentional planning, strategy, and visibility. 5. Don't Ask for Help - Figure It Out Yourself ❌ Why it's worst: This leads to burnout and missed opportunities. Struggling alone when help could accelerate growth is counterproductive. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Seek help when needed, value mentorship, and collaborate with others to expand learning and perspective. 6. Your Job Should Always Be Your Priority ❌ Why it's worst: Prioritizing work at the expense of personal well-being, relationships, and mental health leads to long-term burnout. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Prioritize balance, work is important but not at the cost of your health or personal life. 7. Failing is a Sign You’re Not Cut Out for the Job ❌ Why it's worst: Failure is natural and often the best teacher, not a reason to give up. This mindset shuts down learning and innovation. ✔️ Smart thing to do: Embrace failure as feedback and a learning opportunity to grow, improve, and gain resilience. Here’s some of the best career advice I’ve picked up over the last 10 years: (And yeah, it all turned out to be true.) 1. Networking matters more than you think. It's not always about how skilled you are—sometimes, it’s about who you know. Get out there, meet people, and don’t underestimate the power of a good connection. 2. Not every job will be your dream job. Sure, it’s great to find something you’re passionate about, but sometimes work is just that—a job. And that’s perfectly fine. 3. Feedback, especially the kind that stings a bit, can be your best friend. We all love compliments, but constructive criticism is where the real growth happens. Embrace it, even when it’s tough to hear. 4. Balancing work and life is more of a long game. There will be times when work takes over, and other times when life demands more attention. Don’t stress about getting it perfect every week—think of balance over the months instead. 5. Outgrowing a job is part of the journey. If you find yourself in a role or company that no longer fits who you are, it’s totally okay to move on. Staying true to yourself is what matters most. Which piece of advice speaks to you? I’d love to hear if you have any others to add. If any of this hits home, feel free to share it with your network! ♻️ #CareerTips #LifeLessons #WorkLifeBalance
