Whenever my wife or daughter speak anything he finds it hard to understand and has a puzzled face. Both are good English speakers. But when I say it, he gets it. Everytime😀 Them: "Will this supermarket have iced tea? Can we check out? Me: (points at the shop) "Bro, ice tea have here?" He: Yes, Bro Me: Stop He: Ok Bro! Proficiency in communication is not about the complexity in language. It's about the ability to make the listener understand. Stands true to marketing communication too! I witnessed wrong English yet perfect communication first hand. Language to me is best relished in its sophistication and in the complexity of expression. Writing and speaking longish sentences was the way I learnt and related to when communicating with my audience. This incident as narrated by Mani Maran Ramalingam is an eye opener. Recognizing the value of simplicity in communication is definitely a revelation to me. It's an acknowledgment that effective communication isn't purely about showcasing linguistic prowess, but rather about ensuring that your message resonates with and is understood by its intended recipients. So the take away from the vacation is "KISS" (well reminded me of my professor who insisted on "KISS" while communicating ). This not necessarily means sacrificing the richness of language that you cherish but rather emphasizes on breaking the larger whole into clear and ingestible forms. By doing so, you connect more authentically with your audience, leading to greater understanding and engagement in the process. 📣 Exciting News from Baku, Azerbaijan! I had the pleasure of visiting Baku last June, and I couldn’t help but be inspired by the city’s commitment to preserving nature. From lush parks to well-maintained trees and vibrant greenery, it’s clear that Baku truly values sustainability. The city does an incredible job of nourishing its natural spaces, creating an environment where both locals and visitors can connect with nature in a meaningful way. IMIZI in Nairobi: 110 Cocktails in a night. We organized a guerrilla activation in Nairobi - being as scrappy as we are means that we have to purposeful with strategy, but tactically opportunistic. No PR or marketing outside of a flyer that was posted on Instagram stories and forwarded over WhatsApp. A small menu insert advertising one-night-only cocktails featuring the only Rwandan rum. The IMIZI serves went head-to-head with the establishment's very well-known signatures AND classics (Espresso Martinis, Negronis, Classic Mojitos, etc.). In one night, guests ordered a 110 full-price IMIZI Rum drinks. I was working the floor, so I put in multiple repeat orders from tables that were having 2, 3, and sometimes 4 rounds of IMIZI drinks. Africa isn't a country, it's a continent filled with distinctions, contradictions, and nuance. It is far from guaranteed that an African brand from one part of the continent will resonate in another geography. But what we're finding is that once we get lips to liquid, IMIZI Forest Rum moves.
