It brings me great joy to share that we successfully organized the first edition (fondly called the v1.0 release) of the Bengaluru Systems Meetup - a meetup about databases, distributed systems, dataflow systems, compilers, and all sorts of other interesting systems!

The whole idea for this meetup came up as we were discussing amongst ourselves - we really like systems! There is no better joy than peeling back the layers of a black box to learn how something works.
There's a lot of really amazing work going on in Bengaluru, and in India in general, in the systems domain - people are building really awesome things - but nobody's talking about it, and this is a problem. Bengaluru Systems Meetup was born soon after!
We are really fortunate to have Vivek Galatage and Simrat Hanspal as our inaugural speakers. Here's what they spoke about -
Simrat Hanspal walked us through GPU architecture, optimizations, CUDA, and the challenges of running large ML models on GPUs, with a special look at the attention mechanism, KV-Cache optimizations, and PagedAttention!
Vivek Galatage then walked us through web browser architecture (with a focus on chromium), profiling, debugging, and various implementation challenges with a focus on security, taking a special look at the Spectre vulnerability.
and last but not least, P K Navin Shrinivas walked us all through his implementation of a torrent client in Rust.
If you're building in this space, or even if you're just an enthusiast, I'd strongly encourage you to propose a talk or volunteer to be a curator for the next few meetups. Even showing up to express your interest counts!
Organizing this meetup with Shraddha Agrawal, Aditi Ahuja, Madhav Jivrajani, Raghav Roy and with a lot of help from Zainab Bawa and Kiran Jonnalagadda was definitely a unique experience. I thank each and every one of them for all their effort and support :)
