There are approximately 250 000 weddings in the UK each year, that's 250 000 new dresses that are made in this country alone! For one day! Every dress has an environmental impact at every stage of its life, from where the material was grown / produced to the amount of energy and water was used to make the garment. Not forgetting the carbon footprint of the transportation for getting the dress to you and, of course, the social impact of making it. Shockingly, the textile industry, as whole, contributes to 300,000 tonnes of clothing ending up in landfill. All of us must take responsibility and make more conscious choices when it comes to our wardrobes. Including our wedding dresses.
