Last month in Ndola, Zambia, DeafKidz International hosted a Parent's Workshop. The workshop provided a much-needed platform for parents to share their challenges and learn about safeguarding, protection, and empowering their children with vital skills. Sixty parents attended the workshop where they had the chance to see their children engage in programs previously accessible only to hearing children. The session allowed parents to discuss ... - The need for continuous support through initiatives like DeafKidz Defenders. - Practical solutions for safe transportation to prevent abuse. - Shared challenges that both parents and their children face. Community mapping emerged as a crucial step, encouraging parents to identify local resources and entities for comprehensive support beyond financial aid, including educational and counselling services. Most people don't know even know a deaf person, let alone anything about being deaf, or Deaf culture. Because of that, there's also a lack of resources. American Society for Deaf Children (ASDC) provides our family with a lot of needed resources, so I'm raising awareness and funds for them to give back/pay it forward to other families.
