During my recent flight over Edinburgh, I was able to capture the air streamline over the wing (airfoil). When we think about objects moving in the air, the first image that probably appears in our minds is that of an aircraft. The airfoil is an important part of an aircraft structure and is responsible for producing lift and drag. Airfoils experience lifting force and the counteracting influence of drag when they move in the air. The shape of the airfoil plays a crucial role in overcoming air resistance. Airfoils are streamlined to minimize the drag force imposed on the body by air. Airfoil streamlining improves the usefulness of the airfoil components–for example, aircraft wings–by increasing the ratio of lift to drag. Airfoil streamlining enhances the lifting force produced by aircraft wings at the expense of a little drag.

The TSB released its investigation report (A24P0016) into a February 2024 runway overrun at the Prince Rupert Airport in British Columbia, involving a British Aerospace Avro 146 Series RJ100 aircraft. This occurrence demonstrates how runway conditions can change rapidly. Therefore, it’s important for operators to use all available means to obtain relevant and recent runway surface condition reports, especially when operating outside of normal airport hours. In aviation, when landing conditions are tough, aircraft enter holding patterns, circling safely in designated airspace while awaiting clearance. This procedure, monitored by air traffic controllers, ensures a safe distance from other aircraft, preventing collisions and enhancing safety. There are many regulations, from factors determining dimensions of the airspace, speed, to the reference point to enter the holding pattern and local rules. For a deeper dive into how this essential air traffic control method navigates challenging situations and maintains the safety of our skies, check out our latest blog post 👉https://bit.ly/4cwRwKk #AirTrafficControl #FlightOperations

A VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) is a type of radio navigation system used in aviation that enables aircraft to determine their position and stay on course. It works by transmitting two radio signals: one is a constant reference signal, and the other is a rotating signal. The aircraft’s VOR receiver compares these signals to calculate the angle, or radial, between the aircraft and the VOR station. Pilots use this information, in conjunction with other navigation systems, to accurately follow airways and approach procedures. VORs operate in the Very High Frequency (VHF) range, typically between 108.0 and 117.95 MHz, providing reliable guidance for enroute navigation.

With Boom & United in partnership, returning supersonic travel to the commercial sector is another step closer to reality. For Air Traffic Control, dusting off publications to manage this type of traffic is inevitable. Any #ATC folks out there ever had to control the Concorde in/out of terminal airspace?

The Wide Area Augmentation System is an air navigation aid developed by the Federal Aviation Administration to augment the Global Positioning System, with the goal of improving its accuracy, integrity, and availability. A primary goal of WAAS was to allow aircraft to make a Category I approach without any equipment being installed at the airport. This would allow new GPS-based instrument landing approaches to be developed for any airport, even ones without any ground equipment. A Category I approach requires an accuracy of 16 metres (52 ft) laterally and 4.0 metres (13.1 ft) vertically.[3]

Collins Aerospace has launched its Collins’ Airport Surface Awareness System for real-time tracking, monitoring, and recording of aircraft and GSE at airports. The ability to track aircraft as well as ground support equipment provides a real-time, holistic view of airport operations that enables airports to enhance operational efficiency and help decrease ground incursions. “Lack of situational awareness consistently contributes to critical issues at airports, including incidents on the airfield, inefficient aircraft turn management and improper use of ground support equipment,” said Rakan Khaled, general manager of Airport Solutions at Collins Aerospace (an RTX business). “This system provides real-time data to airports to solve for those issues.” https://lnkd.in/d3xhSZZw #technology #airports #realtime #monitors #aircraft #aviationindustry

outstanding new developments in the aerospace industry created by new comers like Boom. this is what the industry needs.
Since XB-1 successfully completed its first flight, the team has continued to test and confirm the aircraft's performance and handling qualities in final preparations for second flight. Yesterday, XB-1 performed aircraft checkouts, including a 60 knot taxi test, multiple flight control sweeps, and operation of all three engines within their entire range. Following first flight, optimizations made to the aircraft include a modified flight control system. Learn more about XB-1 here: https://lnkd.in/eVb8m5V

Load Distribution Messages (LDMs) are indispensable for safe and compliant aircraft operations in the aviation industry. They facilitate maintaining the aircraft's weight and balance within specified limits, ensuring safety and regulatory adherence. LDMs encompass crucial details such as passenger and cargo manifests, weight information, and balance data, aiding in pre-flight planning and in-flight reference for pilots. Generated through computerized systems, LDMs are transmitted to flight crews and ground personnel for effective load management. They serve as essential documentation for regulatory compliance and provide an audit trail for post-flight analysis. #AviationSafety #AircraftOperations #RegulatoryCompliance #AviationOasis. https://lnkd.in/dBTmk_99

2moSame as in sailing (airplane’s turned wing effect), I am huge passionate and pracitc. CFD is one side amazing subject, otoh on yachting itsef continous optimization of sails shape to set close to perfection forward driving force/lift by playing with pressures&air flows on both sail sides, avoiding drag. Addictive topic for sure, confirming in the end aerodynamics calculations.
